The God's Games

Chapter 263 Shattered Trust

After these two important quests were released, the next tasks focused on the city's restoration.

As soon as the quests were posted, the players got busy.

Although Ulon City was in ruins, it was still the city they had built with their own hands, so they certainly didn't despise it.

As for why they weren't focusing on the main quest, it was because there were too few hints this time.

They were only told to search Ulon City for clues, so Master PungPong and his team looked for clues while helping the NPCs restore their homes.

While helping the NPCs clear away the debris left from the battle, they casually asked if the NPC had noticed anything unusual before the attack.

They had asked many NPCs this question already, but none had provided useful information, so Master PungPong and his team weren't expecting much.

Suddenly, one NPC said, "Now that you mention it, the night before the attack, a group of people in black cloaks came to my house seeking shelter."

If there was anything strange, it was definitely this group of mysterious people.

The NPC explained that on the night before Ulon City was attacked by the demons, a group of odd-looking people came to his house.

These people asked to stay for the night.

The NPC noticed their strange attire, but since they still looked human and had passed the guards' inspection, he figured there was no issue and offered them two rooms to stay in.

The next day, however, the town was attacked by the demon race.

The NPC and his family were too busy fleeing for their lives and had no idea what happened to the people with black cloaks.

When Master PungPong asked why the NPC thought this group was suspicious, the NPC replied, "I asked them why they chose my house, and they said it was because it was the farthest place from the Church of the Light's cathedral, so they decided to stay here."

With that, Master PungPong understood.

These people in black cloaks were likely from the Order of the Shattering Light.

The guards hadn't realized their true identities and let them into Ulon City.

Once inside, they successfully sabotaged the protective barrier.

The demons noticed this and, realizing Hanjun was not in Ulon City, decided to launch their attack.

But after the barrier was destroyed, where did these people go?

Could their disappearance be connected to the missing people from Magic Tower?

Master PungPong pressed on, "Do you know where they are now?"

The NPC shook his head. "When the demons attacked, they disappeared, so we don't know where they went."

The trail of clues ended here.

However, the NPC's house wasn't too damaged, so after Master PungPong and his team helped clean up the room, they took the opportunity to search the area where these people had stayed.

Luckily, the house hadn't suffered too much damage.

Master PungPong and his team entered the room where the Order of the Shattering Light followers had temporarily stayed and conducted a thorough search.

To their surprise, they actually discovered something left behind.

It was a small notebook, seemingly a personal diary belonging to one of the Order of the Shattering Light followers.

Perhaps due to the rush of events, the owner had accidentally left it behind.

Opening the diary, Master PungPong glanced through its contents.

Most of the entries were praises for the God of Darkness, along with expressions of confusion about why people resisted the God of Darkness.

Recently, the diary was filled with curses aimed at the Church of Light, which seemed to have started after the Church's appearance.

The last entry stated that they were determined to destroy both the Church of Light and Ulon City, as they could not allow them to stand in the path of the demon army's advance.

They were willing to do anything to achieve this goal.

It was now clear that these Order of the Shattering Light followers were the ones responsible for sabotaging the barrier and causing all of this chaos.

The quest hint is updated.

[ System Notification: You have discovered a clue regarding the destruction of the barrier, but you still don't know where these people have gone. Perhaps you should inform Father Barry, as he might be able to provide you with further clues. ]

Finally, they had found something!

The players sighed with relief, preparing to head quickly to Father Barry.

However, what they didn't expect was the NPC who had learned the truth from them suddenly showing a devastated expression.

"We actually sheltered the Order of the Shattering Light followers who destroyed the barrier?"n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

"Does that make us the sinners of Ulon City?"

As they spoke, they glanced around at the crumbling ruins, and it dawned on them how grave their mistake had been.

The NPC's expression was filled with sorrow. "So, is all of this our fault?"

It was the first time Master PungPong had seen an NPC react so strongly, and for a moment, he was caught off guard.

In their minds, NPCs were typically just like tools—existing to provide them with clues for quests, much like now.

But they hadn't expected the NPC to show such emotion upon learning the truth, revealing their own feelings once they understood what had happened.

Master PungPong stayed behind to console the two NPCs, telling them it wasn't their fault.

Even if they hadn't sheltered the Order of the Shattering Light followers, those people would have found somewhere else to stay.

This event wasn't something the NPCs could have controlled, and he urged them not to feel too guilty.

Only after being comforted did the NPCs slowly calm down and bid farewell to Master PungPong and his team.

As they walked back, Master PungPong and his team discussed the situation, once again marveling at the game's level of realism—even the NPCs' reactions were so intelligent.

Of course, the NPC's behavior made sense.

Firstly, because he was a follower of the Church of Light, discovering that they had unknowingly harbored the sworn enemies of the God of Light, made him feel as though he had betrayed the God of Light.
