Chapter 275 Holding the Line
The experienced player looked at them with the wisdom of someone who had been through it all and sighed, "Of course, you should do some side tasks, quickly level up, and once you've gained enough experience, you can choose a job class and learn magic."
Before the new players entered the game, Spicy Flavor Fairy had planned to create a guide for them.
However, he hadn't anticipated how much the game's progress would change.
Old quests might no longer be suitable for new players.
With the arrival of the new expansion, even more tasks would appear, but overall, it still fell under Spicy Flavor Fairy's approach.
First, complete quests to level up, then choose your desired job class and work on boosting important NPCs' favorability.
This way, players could take on more quests and acquire magical skills.
The new players glanced at their beginner quests, which included a brief message:
"Dear Hero, welcome to the World of Eorera. However, the World of Eorera is currently under attack from demons. Perhaps you can do something to help."
Just that short sentence made them think they could simply step out and start fighting demons, but it wasn't that straightforward.
The experienced player turned around and spotted a troubled NPC not far away, pointing the new players toward him: "Do you see that NPC? Go ask him if he needs help, and you should be able to take on a quest."
The new players suddenly understood.
They had almost forgotten the traditional way of taking quests in the game.
If they saw an NPC behaving strangely, that was a clear sign they needed help.
Approaching the NPC at such times would surely lead to some worthwhile quests.
Soon, thanks to these newly arrived heroes in Ulon City, the place began to come alive, buzzing with activity.
Because of the countless heroes arriving, there was a renewed sense of confidence in Ulon City, allowing them to believe that they would successfully repel the demons.
When Hanjun once again used his divine power to sense the atmosphere, he noticed that the aura of despair had diminished significantly.
It seemed that the new changes had given everyone a lot of hope.
However, Hanjun did not see this as a good thing.
He understood the principle of "one burst of energy leads to exhaustion," and he worried that after enduring so much, people would easily give up.
They had faced one setback after another, and Hanjun feared that one day they might simply not be able to hold on any longer.
Just as Hanjun was deep in thought, he suddenly heard a voice from the distance.
"You doubt them so much, yet you still think of them this way?"
Without needing to guess, he knew the speaker was the God of Darkness, that reclusive figure.
Perhaps it was during the impending battle that this person always whispered in Hanjun's ear, hoping he would abandon the idea of opposing him.
Hanjun didn't know how the other party had divined his thoughts, but being a God himself, it was possible the God of Darkness possessed some abilities he wasn't aware of.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Hanjun replied, "Doubting whether they can hold on doesn't conflict with my concern for them. I just want them to survive."
"It doesn't matter even if you sacrifice yourself?"
Hanjun said, "Don't you already know that?"
The God of Darkness replied, "...I don't agree."
Hanjun crossed his arms. "This is my decision; why do you insist on interfering?"
The God of Darkness fell silent, probably realizing he couldn't argue against Hanjun, and chose to act as if nothing had happened.
Hanjun didn't find the God of Darkness's actions annoying; rather, he saw him as somewhat immature, like a child seeking approval from others.
If Hanjun disagreed with his thoughts, the God of Darkness would resort to whispering in his ear in various ways.
In Hanjun's view, such behavior was somewhat... endearing.
The God of Darkness left again, but Hanjun couldn't afford to be distracted.
Even as players continually logged in, helping to stabilize the shaky situation in Ulon City, things quickly began to tip in the other direction.
After all, these were low-level players.
The moment they encountered the demons, they would return to the resurrection point, lacking any real combat ability.
Ulon City still relied on the old players and its residents to hold on, but the situation remained dire.
After persisting for a while, Hanjun received a message from Jenlyns asking if he had yet found the group of people form Magic Tower.
The demons had been unleashing high-level spells capable of destroying the entire Ulon City upon them.
They had only managed to evade destruction thanks to temporary barriers set up by several priests from the Church of Light.
However, they were solely on the defensive, lacking any means of counterattack, and it was only a matter of time before they would be worn down.
If the people from the Magic Tower returned, they might be able to counterattack under these circumstances.
Listening to the guard's report, Hanjun instructed him to send a message to Jenlyns: "They will arrive soon."
An hour later, Jenlyns furiously asked, "Is this what you call 'soon'?"
After venting for a moment, he realized he didn't have the time or luxury to remain angry.
His only operational strategy was to fully defend against the demon onslaught, minimizing any losses or casualties.
Given the current strength of Ulon City, that was all he could do.
Hanjun's reply remained the same: "They'll be here shortly."
Jenlyns: "..."
He decided not to ask about the people from the Magic Tower anymore, but there was another matter he couldn't voice.
Hanjun insisted on waiting for the right opportunity to strike, but what if Ulon City couldn't hold out until then?
In Jenlyns's view, the city was already in a very precarious situation.
If they continued to wait, there would truly be no hope left.
Yet, Hanjun showed no intention of taking action.
Did he really plan to keep waiting?
