The Kidnapped Bride

Chapter 496

Chapter 496: Hiding

The passage of time brought many drastic changes in the Smith household. There was absolute silence since everything was sailing smoothly.

But this smoothness was supposed to break out very soon.

Grandfather Smith was currently in his study, going through some major files.

Reading the content, made him frown but suddenly, something struck his brain.

As he rang the bell of his study room, Amara appeared in the study where she peeked inside, “Father, did you call me?”

“Come inside, Amara.” he passed the order, and hearing the same, Amara closed the door behind her.

Out of nowhere, she realized the temperature of the room was significantly down.

.....

It made her conscious, yet without displaying hesitation, she lifted her chin.

“What happened, father? Do you need any kind of help from my side?” Her sweet voice made Grandfather Smith raise his head.

“Amara, tell me about this. Are you hiding something from me?” it was the straight and clear-cut question, making Amara’s smile be swiped off the place.

She felt her legs trembling badly and the same glance of Grandfather Smith was enough to freeze her body.

“W-what do you mean to say, father? What can I hide from you?”

“Anything. Either it is related to you, Lucas..your health, or..any business-related work? Maybe something which I forbade but it later on happened?” Grandfather’s tone was deliberately trying to get her answer.

She wasn’t any fool to not realize what he was seeking from her.

He wanted answers, but she wasn’t willing to reveal the things so easily either.

“N-No..how can I hide something from your father? You know everything about this household. Nothing can happen except your permission....so what can I even hide from you?” Amara tried her best to cover up with a sweet smile.

Keeping her hands and the heartbeat under control, she managed to not blurt out and let the discomfort crawl and not telecast on her face for now.

Whereas, Grandfather smith was simply eyeing her once more. There wasn’t a change in Smith’s expressions, but there was surely a disturbance in mood. “I read files. Recently, I’m seeing that Lucas is actually trying to strike a deal with a foreign investor very soon.”

“Isn’t that good, father?” Amara commented with pride, “He is showing his capability. Once he gets that deal, I’m sure you will understand that your own raised grandson is better than that..illegitimate grandson of yours.” Amara didn’t leave any stone unturned to outcast Jack in her words.

But the next words dropped the bomb on Amara’s head, “.....However, I’m also seeing that nowaday, Lucas is spending too much on someone. He is trying to send a deal in the Johnson state, with a hefty amount.”

“Why would Lucas try to make a deal happen and exchange money with them?”

“With Johnsons?” Amara once again asked, with the also adorned face.

She can’t believe her ears on this topic. ‘Don’t tell me Lucas is trying to get the ruby back?’ As far as she remembers, she had told him clearly no matter what, to bring the ruby to their home.

Until now, she had stayed silent.

But suddenly the topic was raised out of the blue. How can grandfather know that this money transaction was simply done to negotiate with the Johnsons to get the ruby back?

As her mind got blurred for a minor second, Amara regained her consciousness very well.

Taking a seat in front of the grandfather, she adjusted herself to finally look straight into grandfather’s eyes.

“I have no idea why he is trying to do that. But are you sure that it is done by Lucas and not by Jack? After all, it is a company matter. He also has the share now..”

“I have seen everything. And I don’t say without proof, Amara.” Just the simple relaxed yet aloof tone was enough to make her understand she can’t play on this

Even till now, grandfather Smith’s meaningful glare didn’t shift from her eyes for a second.

Her heart was raging badly, and she knew she would ultimately faint if this continued.

“T-then...I..I don’t know..how would I know? Lucas didn’t tell me... Or maybe he is trying to make sure that the Johnsons stay away from Jenifer? Or...something else..”

“Amara.”

Amara’s throat went absolutely sore. Just this one word and she was down for it.

‘Damn you, Lucas..why the hell did you do this or openly?’ She never raised her mind and she can’t believe that Lucas was caught so easily? How?!

The silence fell over the entire study room, and under the desk, Amara was pressing her nails to not let herself suffer a heart attack at this point.

“I..I..”

“Tell me, Amara. I don’t have the entire time for you and your lies. Speak what you know before...I take any unnecessary action to find things out.” grandfather’s last warning was a slap on her face.

At this stage, Amara was filled with anxiety. On top of that, she could have her body going numb as per what her grandfather said.

Yet her fully functioning mind only gave her that do not to let this matter slip.

Taking a deep breath, Amara finally adjusted her glance to finally not let herself take a seat back. “It’s what you are thinking, Mr. Smith.”

“I want a straight answer.”

“Then what will I get by answering you honestly?” Amara didn’t leave the scope. But in return, Mr. Smith’s hard-earned gaze sent chills too. “It’s not about what you get or not. Probably if you tell me, I will be less ruthless. And if I use my methods to find out....you know how far I can go.”

‘He is seriously ruthless...’ how can she not remember the time when he ordered without any mercy to plant the bomb and kill his own son in the accident?

Her lips trembled on recalling the past but this was the last option that rested on her hands. ‘I’m sorry Lucas... but this is to safeguard you in a better way..’

“It’s about Ruby. We don’t have ruby with us anymore since it is with Johnsons...”

“Who gave it to them?”

“L-Lucas...”
