The Martial Unity

Chapter 2558: Permanent Bond

Chapter 2558: Permanent Bond

"We need to be extremely careful with how we proceed in our dialogue with the Dawnbringer."

While Rui peacefully slept away in his luxurious quarters, the leaders of the kingdom of Ucrea held an emergency meeting regarding his sudden visit. They were actually extremely grateful that he wished to retire for the day before their dialogue with him began.

It gave them time to prepare.

This was a golden opportunity to extract the best possible outcome from him.

"We must convince him to bestow upon the Kingdom of Ucrea even just a fraction of his power," one executive official high up in the government declared. "The Kingdom of Ucrea would have been destroyed today if not for the arrival of the young Master. What will happen to us when he leaves?"

Nobody felt the need to answer that question aloud.

If they hadn't been able to protect the Kingdom of Ucrea that day, then there would inevitably come another day where they would fail again.

"It might be the very next day after the Dawnbringer leaves!" the executive official exclaimed. "Whatever the cost, we must get him to help us."

"Calm down, Minister Lenon." Queen Carme glared at him. "Your criticisms of our shortcomings are sound and valid, but the whole purpose of his voyage around the entire world is to impart his power to the rest of us. As long as we don't displease him, he will surely help us."

"With all due respect, that isn't enough," Minister Lenon shot back. "You must get him to deploy his breakthrough ability to increase the numbers of our Martial Artists."

Her expression grew complicated.

She wasn't sure what kind of person Rui was, but she got the impression that he was jarringly informal and nonchalant despite the amount of power, influence, and authority that he wielded.

Yet, that didn't make it alright for her to treat him that way. If it just so happened to be perceived as disrespect from her end, then she could very well end up dooming her own nation.

"I believe that we should be more ambitious."

Queen Carme turned to the executive official in her cabinet who spoke up. "Meaning?"

"I don't think we should aim for merely a temporary boon and blessing from the Dawnbringer, Your Majesty," the official continued. "I believe that there is a chance that we can use this opportunity to form a permanent bond with the Dawnbringer that will continue to benefit us in the future."

Realization dawned on her eyes narrowed.

"I believe that if we can... get him to leave an heir behind," the minister smiled, "then we will permanently have a bond that will make him invested in the Kingdom of Ucrea and its wellbeing. Ideally, marriage would be better. But marriage takes time to arrange and it is clear that the Dawnbringer intends to leave soon. There are other means by which we can permanently tie him to the land, but they are not viable under the constrained timeframe and lack of preparation."

She was hardly unfamiliar with this tactic. It was often surprisingly effective as long as the right approach was utilized for a particular man. Even men in power who had received formal training of the traps and pitfalls that came from giving into temptation seldom had the self- control to not indulge.

She wondered if the Dawnbringer would be any different.

As far as she was concerned, it was actually worth a shot. It could potentially secure long- term prosperity for the Kingdom of Ucrea and could forge a strong connection with the most powerful nation in the entire world.

The Kandrian Empire had become the most desired ally in the entirety of the Panama Continent at the moment, due to the fact that it was one of the very few powerhouses that was able and willing to support all of its allies with Masters and Sages due to the sheer amount of excess Martial Artists it had.

She was willing to implement any strategy and tactic to become an ally of the nation in this apocalyptic dystopia.

"The question is how do we go about it."

"I recommend a head-on approach, Queen Carme," Director Miliania of covert operations remarked. "The personality profile that we have developed on the Dawnbringer is that he's extremely intelligent and observant. That alone reduces the probability that we will be able to trick him. The fact that he has the most powerful Martial Mind known to the Martial World means that he will be able to see through any deception that any person in this kingdom tries on him."

This destroyed the chances of any covert attempt to awaken him.

"Then, I simply recommend that we try a more earnest and sincere approach," she continued. Queen Carme frowned. "You want to request him to fall into our trap?"

"It does need to be a trap at all," Minister Lenon chimed in. "We can request him to acquiesce for the sake of the future survival and prosperity of the Ucrean Kingdom."

"There is no way that can possibly work."

"It is worth a try, Your Majesty. There is no other way. Need I remind you what is at stake? It may just be indulgence and pleasure for him, but for us it is the difference between destruction and survival. And the difference between collapse and rise."

She heaved a deep shaky breath. "Fine, a head-on approach it is. We need to be quick with our selection and briefing. How do we go about it?"

"We don't have too much time, Your Majesty," Director Miliania pointed out. "Frankly, we can't choose someone inconsequential without a strong tie to our nation. It needs to be someone who is inseparable from our nation. Most likely someone who is able to earn the respect of the Dawnbringer and someone whose voice has weight."

"But who can we possibly find?" Queen Carme frowned.

They all stared at her.

She did a double-take as she understood who they had in mind.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
