Chapter 57: 52 Chapter: Tavern Turmoil
Chapter 57: 52 Chapter: Tavern Turmoil
The next morning, Xiao Qi left the house early and did not return until late.
However, he did bring back quite a bit of useful information. According to the address Xu Mo provided him with, he found the villa where Elsa lived, which was not Councilman Tyrone’s home but his private residence outside, a place he rarely visited.
The Underground City had eighteen councilors who presided over the council to decide on major and minor issues of the city-state, as well as appointments and dismissals.
The Councilman was the chief decision-maker.
The Underworld Xu Mo learned about was an underground city, and the composition of the councilors might be decided by those ‘bigwigs’ above.
The entire Underworld was secretly controlled by the ‘bigwigs’ of the aboveground world.
Councilman Tyrone was one of the eighteen councilors.
Xiao Qi also found the address of Councilman Tyrone’s home, which was no secret, and could be found with some effort.
The other party owned a luxurious private estate in the main city area, covering a large area with strong security.
In the estate, Councilman Tyrone was playing with his young son.
In the distance, the housekeeper came over with a guard officer and whispered something in Councilman Tyrone’s ear, making him frown.
“What do you mean ‘disappeared’?” Councilman Tyrone said.
“It’s unclear, after being sent out they just didn’t come back,” the guard officer responded, indicating that the previous night they had received orders from Councilman Tyrone to kill someone, and after dispatching a few people, they had unexpectedly disappeared.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
As for the specifics of their disappearance, that was still not clear.
However, such matters were not to be brought to light; they could only be executed in the shadows.
Councilman Tyrone’s brow furrowed tightly. He was beginning to suspect that young man; last time he had sent someone to follow him, that person had also died inexplicably, albeit in an accident caused by electrocution.
Could it be another accident this time?
“Go there personally tonight and make it clean,” Councilman Tyrone commanded the guard officer, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. No wonder Elsa, that little wench, kept refusing to compromise—it turned out there was someone else outside. He had been putting up with her before, but it seemed he no longer needed to show any consideration for her and her daughter.
At the thought, a malicious smile appeared in his eyes.
The mother-daughter duo, an experience he had yet to try, so sorry for Secretary Jin who passed away.
……
The tavern was exceptionally lively at night.
Lady Hellen was there again, the thin clothes perfectly accentuating her voluptuous figure as she sat at the bar watching Xu Mo mix drinks.
“Lady Hellen, your drink,” Xu Mo said, sliding the prepared drink across the bar to Lady Hellen.
“Do you have any free time tonight?” Lady Hellen asked Xu Mo with an ambiguous look, enjoying teasing the young bartender.
“Lady Hellen, the tavern is quite busy,” Xu Mo replied with an apologetic smile, which Lady Hellen did not mind.
“Xu Mo,” a crisp voice called out, and Elsa walked into the tavern, dressed in youthful and vibrant clothing that made her look full of life.
Being able to visit the tavern was something Elsa looked forward to every day, and she was very happy about it.
“Miss Elsa,” Xu Mo called out with a smile.
“Mix me a drink, not too strong,” Elsa said with a smile, “I’ll sit over to the side; I won’t disturb your work.”
“Sure,” Xu Mo nodded.
Lady Hellen looked at Elsa and then at Xu Mo, remarking with a laugh, “In love?”
“Miss Elsa is a friend of mine,” Xu Mo shook his head.
“Very pretty,” Lady Hellen whispered laughingly, “But occasionally, you can change things up a bit.”
Xu Mo gave a wry smile.
In reality, he was quite strained since the body he was in was at the prime age of development.
Another person entered the tavern, Kane, who made a beeline for the bar.
“Where is Miss Ye?” Kane asked Xu Mo.
“I don’t know,” Xu Mo shook his head.
Kane passed a Federation bill to Xu Mo.
Xu Mo turned his head towards the stairs and called, “Boss, someone is looking for you,” swiftly taking the bill.
Life was tough…
Kane revealed a disdainful expression, while Lady Hellen next to him said with a laugh, “Business seems to be getting better; I’ll come find you another day, little brother Xu Mo.”
Saying so, Lady Hellen laughed and stood up to leave.
Ye Qingdie came downstairs, shot Xu Mo a playful glare, then turned to Kane and said, “Mr. Kane was looking for me?”
“Miss Ye mentioned yesterday that she wanted to learn about some things, I was passing by today, so why don’t we find a place to have a proper chat?” Kane said smilingly.
Ye Qingdie felt a wave of disgust, and as she glanced at Xu Mo, she saw him still with his head down, working as if he hadn’t heard.
Kicking Xu Mo lightly under the table, Ye Qingdie looked at Kane and said, “Am I that familiar with Mr. Kane?”
Kane was taken aback, then said, “We’ll become familiar with time.”
“Really?” Ye Qingdie glanced outside the tavern and said, “You and Miss Sophie are quite close, aren’t you?”
So she was concerned about that?
Kane glanced at Ye Qingdie and said, “It’s all for show. Sophie’s parents work for the Council, and I want to get into the core of the Federation Guard. I need to use her, Miss Ye can understand, right?”
Ye Qingdie chuckled, “Of course, I understand, but whether Miss Sophie understands that is not so clear.”
“Miss Ye always brings up that woman, it’s somewhat disappointing,” Kane said.
“Is that so?” A voice came from behind, and Kane’s eyes changed subtly as he turned his head to see Sophie appear there.
“Sophie, it was just a joke,” said Kane, but he saw Sophie pick up the glass of wine in front of Xu Mo and splash it onto his face without Xu Mo stopping her.
After wiping the wine off his face, Kane saw the people in the tavern looking their way, and his face became embarrassingly red.
“What do you mean by that?” Kane stared at Sophie and asked.
Sophie seemed to regret her impulsiveness as she glared at Ye Qingdie and said, “Did you do this on purpose?”
Apparently, she was blaming Ye Qingdie.
Yesterday, she had managed to get in touch with someone close to the Councilmen to inform them about Elsa and Xu Mo. Intending to check on the small tavern today, she had not expected it to be undisturbed, and to witness what had just transpired.
“Miss Sophie, that glass of wine just now costs a hundred Federation coins,” said Ye Qingdie without responding to her accusation.
Sophie threw a hundred Federation coins on the counter and stared at Ye Qingdie, “I hope your little tavern can stay open.”
After she said this, she turned and left. Kane, of course, realized that he had been played and coldly glanced at Ye Qingdie before following Sophie out the door.
No sooner had the two left, than a car pulled up in front of the tavern. The driver got out and opened the rear door, and a middle-aged man wearing sunglasses stepped out, another person exited from the other side.
They glanced at the tavern and then walked towards it.
Sophie and Kane stepped aside to make room; she recognized the new arrival, it was Councilman Tyrone’s housekeeper.
“This is going to be interesting,” Sophie thought with a cold laugh, deciding not to leave right away.
The housekeeper and guard officer entered the tavern, and Elsa’s face turned exceptionally pale upon seeing them.
Had she been followed?
The housekeeper approached the bar, and the surrounding people all stepped aside, sensing an unusual atmosphere, and began to filter out of the tavern.
The housekeeper took a seat and said without further ado, “Make me a drink.”
“Sure,” Xu Mo nodded, mixed a drink, and handed it to him.
There was no conversation, but Xu Mo saw Elsa’s reaction. She had nervously stood up, filled with fear and concern.
It wasn’t for herself, but for Xu Mo.
She was afraid she might get Xu Mo killed.
The housekeeper, without uttering a word, silently drank, casting a tense atmosphere.
After glancing at Ye Qingdie next to Xu Mo and finishing his drink, the housekeeper turned and walked toward Elsa.
In his eyes, Xu Mo and his companions were just insignificant figures, not worth his attention, as easily crushed as ants.
Daring to lay a hand on the woman that Councilman was interested in, truly courting death!
The housekeeper approached Elsa and said, “Miss Elsa, I will take you back to your residence.”
“Okay,” Elsa nodded and followed him out of the tavern, glancing back at Xu Mo with eyes full of worry.
She dared not stay, fearing that she might bring trouble to Xu Mo.
Once outside the tavern, Elsa said, “He’s just a friend of mine.”
Her voice carried a plea.
“So he’s a friend of Miss Elsa,” the housekeeper nodded.
“Can you not touch him?” Elsa, growing more fearful of his calm tone, said, “I can agree to anything.”
Her voice trembled with a hint of crying. If fate decreed it so,
then she would have to compromise,
seemingly unable to escape his grasp.
Nightmares, after all, remained nightmares. Reuniting with Xu Mo brought a ray of light into her life, but it was fleeting and intangible, out of reach.
As she took a seat in the car, Elsa kept looking in the direction of the small tavern, feeling rather desperate, much like when her father had died.
The car slowly drove away, and Sophie swept a glance inside the tavern before she, too, left the area.
She knew Xu Mo was doomed; the housekeeper and the guard captain had personally come, Tyrone wouldn’t let Xu Mo go.
He and that wretch were as good as dead.
After their departure, a group of figures arrived at the tavern, including the guard captain who hadn’t left earlier. He brought quite a few people with him.
However, they didn’t take immediate action but found seats and sat down as if they were just there to drink.
Xiao Qi chatted with other patrons, and soon the few remaining customers also left the tavern, leaving only Xu Mo, his companions, and the guard captain and his men.
The tavern grew eerily quiet.
Xiao Qi stepped outside the tavern, looking around before quietly locking the door after hanging a “Closed” sign.
Xu Mo calmly cleaned the glasses while Ye Qingdie turned to retrieve a kitchen knife and began sharpening it.
Shadow stood up from the corner, holding a long blade in hand.
The whole tavern was filled with a strange atmosphere.
The guard captain furrowed his brow, something didn’t feel right about this little tavern…
He stood up, took off his clothes, revealing battle armor underneath, and the men beside him also stood up and moved to the center of the tavern.
“Is Councilman Tyrone at home now?” Xu Mo continued to clean glasses and asked, as the guard captain’s pupils constricted, realizing that the other party knew Councilman Tyrone.
Xu Mo looked up, his dark eyes revealing a bright smile.
“Welcome to the Hunter Tavern!”
What do you think?
