Chapter 6: Awakening
Chapter 6: Awakening
[Your one hour ends in 10 seconds. Be prepared to be sent out.]
As the countdown began, Henry immediately began to get prepared to return to the real world. He knew that only a single second had gone by ever since he had gotten inside this space, but this was just unbelievable.
And even though he had experienced this feeling before, he wasn't sure about what to expect the next moment that he was being transported outside.
[Your time inside this space has ended. As such, the host will be sent out of the space directly starting from the next day onwards.]
[In case the host intends to get into the space during the following day, he can simply do it at will and he will appear inside.]
After that last prompt, Henry felt his surroundings becoming blurry and he suddenly appeared inside the room that the two of them were hiding currently.
The sudden change of the lighting, from being dim to suddenly being bright disturbed his eyes. Even though it was true to the eyes of those who were present outside, Henry had never left the place that he was, having spent an hour inside there, Henry had already gotten adapted to the low light level.
He squinted his eyes as he waited for them to adapt to the intense light that was in the outside world.
"Hey henry, why are you frozen? Is something wrong with the gun?" Adam, who had just arrived in front of Henry couldn't help but ask.
After hearing the question, Henry finally reacted. He looked around and confirmed that everything was just the way that it was before he entered the space.
He didn't reply to the question that Adam had asked. Instead, he felt the pistol that was in his hand. He really felt familiar with it after spending a whole hour inside the space as well as the basic level skills that he had gotten.
He removed the cartridge from the magazine to see how many bullets were present. He was slightly satisfied when he noticed that the gun was fully loaded.
As for the dissatisfaction that he was having, that was mainly due to the fact that this small number of bullets were not enough for him to survive outside there in case he encountered the apocalyptic creatures.
Adam's jaw dropped when he saw Henry's actions. "Since when are you so good at handling a gun?" He couldn't help but question.
The two of them had practically spent their whole lives together. As such, Adam believed that he knew Henry in and out.
And during all the years that they had spent together, he had never known that Henry was familiar with utilizing guns. And even though they had played with toy guns before, toy guns were not the same as the real thing.
"It is just that you are not careful. Otherwise, you would have noticed that I already knew how to use the gun as a professional. Of course, I trained in my dream." Henry replied nonchalantly as he tried looking around, trying to see if he could find anything that could be used as a weapon.
"Are you messing with me? If you are not willing to tell me, then just keep quiet rather than spouting nonsense." Adam replied in a dissatisfied voice.
Henry was disappointed to find out that there was nothing else that could be utilized during the apocalypse fight.
Now that he was armed, he went back to the table and began eating. As for Adam, he had taken the gun from Henry and began observing it keenly.
"Make sure that you don't pull the trigger and waste the bullets. Additionally, if the sound of you shooting is heard from outside, we will definitely be in trouble." Henry stated as he continued stuffing himself.
With the information that he had received about the apocalypse, he knew that he was going to expend a lot of energy in case they wanted to get out of this facility.
Basically, the only source of strength that he currently possessed was the food that was laid in front of him.
"I know that. There's no need for you to remind me about that. For heaven's sake, I am an adult now." Adam complained as he set the gun aside before beginning to eat as well.
The two of them didn't know that the room that they were presently in, had soundproof walls. And that was the reason as to why they were not hearing any kind of noise coming from outside.
According to them, the reason as to why it was silent outside was simply because there were no people outside. Before they entered this room, they had managed to catch a glimpse of the other youths being torn apart by the wolves.
As for the reason as to why they didn't react that much to that, that was simply because during the past 10 years that they had spent here, they had seen numerous deaths of their fellow youths who were brought over.
All of them were killed the moment that they attempted to escape. As such, even though the two of them were young, they were used to seeing fatalities.
Just like any other youth present in the facility, the two of them had always been starving. Even though they were receiving food from the facility, the amount of food was not enough for them to recover after the bid of work they would have done during the day.
And as such, since several hours had already gone by ever since they ate last, there stomach were currently empty.
Knowing that the situation could get out of control at any moment, Henry immediately took the gun that Adam had set on the table. He had to be prepared to utilize it at any time.
After about 10 minutes, the two of them continued eating. But at this moment, they heard a loud bang on the door.
They immediately became alert. Henry immediately aimed the gun at the door. He was ready to shoot in case anything badged into the room that they were in.
Bang! Bang!
From the loud banging of the door, it was obvious evident that, the other party wanted to break the door.
Continuously, the thing that was knocking at the door did so several times but it didn't manage to do anything to the steel door.
After doing that several times and seeing that the efforts were not bearing any fruit, the other party at the other end of the door finally stopped.
Henry knew that this wasn't over. Even though the two of them were currently temporarily safe inside here, that didn't mean that they were going to stay here forever. They will have to get out of here at some point in time.
Therefore, he steadily approached the door. The gun was aiming at the door, ready to shoot.
Using the small hole that was on the door, Henry peeped outside. He was careful to make sure that he didn't make any kind of noise.
The moment that the scene outside of the room fell into his eyes, he was stunned.
Bloodshot eyes were looking at him hungrily. These were the eyes of a wolf that was standing just outside the door.
Henry gulped as he looked at the wolf that was throwing a terrifying and chilling gaze at him.
The wolf that was just outside the door wasn't different from an adult wolf. It was just that, the eyes were currently blood red, due to the effect of the apocalypse.
Henry knew that this was just the beginning. During the start of the apocalypse, normal wild and domestic animals would be influenced by the apocalypse so that they could succumb to their very primitive instincts.
And as such, the wolves would attack anything that was in front of them, as long as it had life, and it's not of the same species as them.
In other words, the apocalypse had definitely increased the ferocity of the animals. And, this was just the first danger that the human race was supposed to face.
Even though he wasn't sure about the progress that came after this, from the information that he had received, he knew that as time went by, the danger that the humans would be facing would increase bit by bit.
So, the survival of humans was at stand still.Even though, currently they could hide themselves inside their houses and not to go outside, who said that this could continue forever?
Not to mention the fact that they couldn't stay locked inside their houses without food, there was also a fact that as time goes by, the apocalyptic creatures will continue getting stronger.
And, it would reach a point where they will be able to easily destroy a house. In that situation, there will be no difference between the people hiding inside the houses and those who were outside fighting for their lives.
But, the reason as to why Henry had decided to approach the door was simple. He knew something from the information that he had gathered.
And although he knew that he might not be the first person to do that, he knew that the earlier that he did it, the better position he would be in as the apocalyptic period moved on.
As the wolf continued staring at him, Henry immediately took a step backwards. After that, he aimed the gun at the wolf that was standing outside.
Bang!
Without giving it a chance, he pulled the trigger and shot at the wolf. He didn't shoot numerous bullets, but just a single one.
And, thanks to his skills and capabilities, he managed to hit the bull's-eye.
The bullet that had been shot from the pistol immediately pierced through the eye of the wolf that was staring at Henry.
With his current capabilities, it wasn't hard for him to easily get the target. And considering that there was no difference in terms of abilities of the current wolf and the one that was present before the apocalypse, he was able to easily hit the target.
The bullet penetrated into the brain of the wolf, making it drop onto the ground. And after twitching for a few seconds, it completely stopped as its life ended.
Immediately after that, Henry felt a warm current rushing through his body. He felt that there was a mysterious energy inside his body.
And at that moment, he immediately knew that from the information that he had received, this was the so-called awakening in the apocalypse.
