The Unexpected Rise Before My Exit from the Entertainment Industry

Chapter 20: Volleyball Girl

Chapter 20

Su Xiaoxiao couldn't stop crying.

Li Hanming came over to comfort her, but it was useless.

Daniel also walked over and said to his two teammates:

"I feel that although it wasn't on purpose, she did hit her several times. Should we apologize?"

Xin Ya didn't seem willing, but Lin Qiqi surreptitiously squeezed her hand, then shouted to Su Xiaoxiao:

"Xiaoxiao, I'm sorry! You'll forgive us, right?"

With her arms crossed, Xin Ya said with a half-smile:

"Sorry about that, shall we continue the game?"

After speaking, she looked at the director again.

Director A could only look at Chen Mo and Qin Wei.

Daniel came over to the director and said:

"Director, I'm dropping out too. I don't want to go easy in the game, but I don't want to see them bashing people either."

Of course, he said this quietly.

Chen Mo looked at Qin Wei and smiled bitterly:

"Since Xiaoxiao isn't playing anymore and Daniel can't continue, Teacher Qin, why don't we just end the game?"

"Why end it? Bring it on."

Qin Wei walked up to Su Xiaoxiao carefreely, patted her shoulder and asked her to rest on the side. Then she chose to substitute for her.

Chen Mo didn't mind and automatically substituted for Daniel.

Xin Ya and Lin Qiqi looked at each other and smiled. This was the situation they wanted.

Without saying anything, they had a tacit understanding-

Today they must make Qin Wei's proudest face swell up!

Since Qin Wei's group was far behind in score, the director gave her the chance to serve first. Lin Qiqi and Xin Ya didn't care at all. They didn't even defend, but stood on the other side of the net watching the show.

They had both seen Qin Wei's performances before. They were certain she couldn't play ball, let alone serve.

Even if she got the ball over the net, so what? At best she got lucky. They could let her score a point to humiliate her.

Qin Wei held the volleyball and gestured a few times, then nodded at Sun Dan.

The whistle blew, Qin Wei ran up holding the ball and jumped up to spike it over the net.

Bang!

Not only did the volleyball go over the net, it hit Xin Ya right on the forehead!

Caught off guard, Xin Ya staggered back three or four steps before losing her balance and sitting on the ground.

The volleyball bounced away while Xin Ya's forehead was smeared with mud and had turned red.

Xin Ya sat on the ground, forgetting to stand up. Lin Qiqi also stood there with her mouth agape, too shocked to speak.

Qin Wei landed steadily, flexing her wrists.

She quietly murmured:

"How come that didn't knock her out... tsk, weak body, lacks exercise..."

Then Qin Wei looked up at Xin Ya, who was sitting on the ground across the net:

"Sorry about that! I couldn't control my strength."

Everyone present believed her. It was obvious Qin Wei couldn't play volleyball and it was normal she couldn't control her strength well.

On the other side, they were arrogant from the start. It was understandable they would make mistakes, just as the saying goes, arrogance leads to defeat.

Xin Ya gritted her teeth. They were still filming the show, so of course she couldn't lose her temper. But she wasn't someone who gave up easily either. She stood up and brushed the dirt off her pants:

"Let's continue!"

Qin Wei's mouth curled up in an imperceptible smile.

It was Xin Ya's turn to serve. She quickly regained her composure, face stiff, eyes full of aggression.

Just like when she served at Su Xiaoxiao, she jumped up and smashed the ball over the net, sending it straight at Qin Wei's face.

Originally, she could have easily dodged it, but the original body was still slow to react. She raised her hand to try to receive it when she saw the ball flying over, but it was too late.

Qin Wei resigned herself and closed her eyes waiting to be hit, but the ball never struck her.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Li Hanming standing in front of her, blocking the ball for her.

That serve was full of Xin Ya's resentment, so the impact was especially hard.

But fortunately it was just a volleyball, so no one was hurt.

Still, Qin Wei instinctively became anxious:

"Are you alright!?"

Li Hanming shook his head and said "I'm fine," signaling her to be careful before jogging back to his position to continue the game.

The score difference was still big, but Qin Wei didn't care.

For the next serve it was Lin Qiqi's turn. Having received professional training, her serve was clean and smooth. But Qin Wei didn't back down either, returning the ball that flew over.

Xin Ya received it and hit it back over.

Qin Wei hit it back again.

Lin Qiqi and Xin Ya exchanged glances. They both realized Qin Wei wasn't just getting lucky receiving so many balls.

Could it be that she went to play volleyball on her days off filming?

Neither of them even believed that explanation themselves.

But they were still in the middle of a match and had no time to ponder it carefully. The game continued with Lin Qiqi hitting the ball over the net, only to have Qin Wei leap up and spike it back again.

This time it struck Xin Ya's head again.

Xin Ya was furious and strode toward Qin Wei.

But Qin Wei wasn't worried at all. On the contrary, she smiled radiantly and said to the angry Xin Ya approaching her:

"It's just a game! Show some sportsmanship. Getting hit by the ball is very normal, isn't it?"

Lin Qiqi reacted swiftly and held Xin Ya back.

The words sounded a bit familiar. When Xin Ya hit Su Xiaoxiao with the ball earlier, she had said the same thing.

If she made a fuss now, it would be like slapping her own face. It would make the audience feel she was the petty one who couldn't take it. It would also make the audience realize she had intentionally hit Su Xiaoxiao with the ball earlier, which was likely to provoke a lot of anger.

Thinking of all this, Xin Ya calmed down a lot and returned to her position.

Qin Wei's smile grew even more radiant. They'd barely just started. She wouldn't rest until Xin Ya's face was swollen from being struck.

The entire game was broadcasted, creating another small viewership peak. But not because of the professional gameplay, rather because Qin Wei's performance exceeded expectations while also oddly satisfying-

[Xin Ya definitely bullied Su Xiaoxiao on purpose. She said it wasn't on purpose when she hit Su Xiaoxiao, yet got angry when someone hit her back. Clearly she can't take what she dishes out.]

[Qin Wei is awesome! An eye for an eye. Xin Ya's face is bruised but she didn't even dare make a sound, only able to silently take the loss.]

[Qin Wei may not be a good person but Xin Ya is no angel either. Back when they filmed together, she would intentionally expose Qin's private life to the media. Later Qin said she wouldn't work with her again, and movies/TV shows + sponsors followed suit and stopped working with her too, until Qin went downhill and she finally got roles again. She hadn't even stabilized her status yet when she picked up a bunch of bad habits again. They both got what they deserved today.]

[I didn't know there was this backstory. Although Qin isn't great, blabbing about others is pretty nasty. If I had a classmate or friend like that, I'd keep my distance too.]

[Is Xin Ya ok? She didn't seem that mad, would you still smile if you got hit by a ball?]

[Mmm...but she shouldn't have kept bullying Su Xiaoxiao right? She was smiling quite happily when she hit Su Xiaoxiao...]

[Lin Qiqi is also quite... feels like an accessory. But she stood by Xin Ya the whole time, giving off accomplice vibes...]

[Very subtle, you guys noticed too right...]
