Steve’s tears had stopped, and the bottom of his eyes was covered with a layer of red from crying.

He seemed to want to say something to her but couldn’t bring himself to do so.

After a long time, he lowered his eyes slightly, his lips moved, and then he looked up again, staring at Ruby: “Ruby, can I discuss something with you?”

Ruby nodded first, and then used all her strength to utter a “yes.”

Steve looked at her, his eyes dark and deep. Before he even spoke, a trace of anticipation appeared on his face. He calmly said, “If, if Edric Reat really can’t walk with you till the end, could you … could you, after you two break up, consider getting back together with me?”

Without waiting for her answer, he assured her as if making a vow, “I promise, I won’t treat you like I used to, I won’t ask you to love me anymore, so… can you consider it?”
