Chapter 80 A Forgotten Promise
Chapter 80 A Forgotten Promise
The moment the trio of women stepped out of the airport, and noticed that the car waiting for them was a Rolls Royce Phantom VIII series II, their jaws practically dropped. First, Alex arrived dressed in luxurious attire that was worth more money than they expected him to have in his bank account. And second, he surprised them with a car that whose value was higher than most houses in the United States.
Diana was the most shocked of all, because her private investigator had informed her that Alex's income was likely meagre. Due to his occupation as Private Security, and his part-time job as an up-and-coming MMA fighter. She could not understand how Alex had managed to get his hands on so much money.
However, Alex did not let her ask. As he opened the door for his mother and sisters, the twins were quick to climb inside the vehicle as if it were the most natural thing of all time. After all, their stepfather was a billionaire, and because of this, they were used to travelling in luxurious vehicles.
As for Diana, she took the shotgun position, sitting next to Alex as he drove away from the airport. After seeing the look on his mother's face, he simply smirked and shook his head before explaining how he had gotten such an expensive sedan.
"I know what you're thinking and you can relax. This car isn't mine. I am merely borrowing it from a friend…"
Diana sighed in relief, after learning that her worst fears were nothing more than her own paranoia. That is, until Alex spoke up again with a smug tone in his voice.
"I mean, normally I'd pick up a girl in my Lamborghini or Mclaren. But those are both two seaters. And since there are four of us, I needed to call in a favor. Anyway, I have a reservation set up at a five-star restaurant, so sit back and relax until we arrive."
This statement, of course, was not reassuring to the boy's mother, who was quick to ask him just where he had managed to get his hands on such a fortune to be able to afford two super cars.
"Alex? You're not involved with organized crime, are you?"
Alex did not even know where such a statement had come from and looked at his mother funny, before expressing his honest opinion on her question.
"Organized crime? No? Why do you ask?" It was Kristina who noticed the emphasis Alex had on the word "organized" and was quick to ask about what her little brother meant by this.
"Why do you have to put such an emphasis on organized? You're not doing anything illegal here in Korea, are you, Alex?"
This question caused Alex to chuckle, as he directly avoided answering the question in a not-so-subtle way.
"Wouldn't you like to know?"
This caused all three of the women to frown as Alex pulled up into the parking lot of the luxurious restaurant, where he paid the valet to park his vehicle for him. Once he had done this, Alex entered the establishment with both of his stepsisters holding onto his arms. When the hostess saw him enter, she was quick to ask for his reservation.
"Do you have a reservation?"
Alex nodded and was oddly polite as he answered the question.
"Yes, table for four, under Alex Smith…."
The young woman looked through her notes and found Alex's name was indeed reserved, thus she wore a pretty smile and guided the man and his dates to the table where they would be having a meal. As for Alex, he looked around and gazed upon the luxurious trappings that the building was clad in.
The floor was made out of a natural dark hardwood, and the walls were coated in marble. The chandeliers appeared to be made out of platinum and diamond, and the tables were covered with what appeared to be silk tablecloths.
Once the 4 of them sat down, the waitress came by to take their order. Which Alex surprised his mother and sisters by ordering a twelve course meal for each of them. He also ordered the most expensive wine on the list to be brought over in bottles. This surprised his sisters, who thought that Alex was too young to drink. After all, he most certainly was by American standards.
"Alex! You shouldn't be drinking!"
"Little brother, you better not be using a fake ID to fool these people!"
Alex simply scoffed when he heard this before informing the two women of the different laws in Korea.
"You can both relax. The legal drinking age in South Korea is nineteen. It is perfectly legal for me to purchase and consume alcohol. Besides, I work out enough that I could drink a six-pack a day, and it wouldn't affect my health. Let's just enjoy this meal, shall we?"
Though the two women had been to Europe before, and knew that the drinking age in America was unusually high compared to the rest of the world. They still did not like the idea of their beloved little brother drinking. But since he was paying for the meal, they did not persist in this matter, and instead they began to ask him about how his life had been after they parted ways all those years ago.
Madison was, of course, the first to ask this question. And she did so with a rather timid look on her pretty face, as if she were afraid that her little brother would not have forgiven her for leaving him behind. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
"So Alex… It's been five whole years… How have you been?"
Alex poured himself a glass of wine with one of the bottles that arrived at the table and sniffed its aroma before taking a slight sip. He knew how to behave with class, he just rarely put in the effort to do so. After he had made this pointless gesture, he then spoke the honest truth about his life, and how it had been since the divorce.
"Honestly? Until relatively recently, I woke up each morning cursing my life. But since moving here to Korea, things have changed for the better. I have made quite a bit of money through my gig as private security, which, thanks to some smart investments, has paid off quite massively. And I'm doing fairly well at university.
Although my mathematics and physics grades are lacking, so I doubt I'll be able to get a STEM degree. But other than that, I have a new mother and sisters who treat me as if I am a beloved member of their family, and the old man has stopped interfering with my life. I have also begun my career as a professional mixed martial artist, but I as you can see, I have taken I minor setback in this regard."
Alex then pointed to the wound on his hand, which caused the trio of women to grimace. If they knew the full extent of his injuries, they would be far more concerned, but the gauze concealed that.
Meanwhile, Madison and Kristina were happy to hear that Alex's life was going well, and just when the man was about to ask how they had been, Diana interrupted him with a question he was trying to avoid answering.
"That sounds well and good? But from what I hear, you have involved yourself in romantic relationships with nearly a dozen different women, some of which are as old as myself, and others are literal school girls. Not to mention the variety of other loose women you have had entanglements with.
And then there are the multitude of instances where you have found yourself at odds with the police. Tell me, Alex, if life was really going so well for you, would you need to act out in such an uncivilized manner?"
After hearing his mother talk about all of these things, Alex damn near choked on his wine, which he was taking another sip from when she spoke. As for Madison and Kristina, their gaze shifted between their mother and brother, while a look of pure horror was spread across their otherwise pretty faces.
There was no way these things could be true about their beloved brother, and they were just about to ask Alex if he had really become such a thug, when he glared at his mother and spoke to her with a voice that was filled with cold rage.
"You have been spying on me?"
The look in Alex's blue eyes, along with the tone in his voice, actually caused a chill to go down Diana's spine, as she averted her gaze, and answered the question while trying to keep herself calm.
"Can you honestly blame me? After that last phone call we had together, I could not help but look into how my beloved son was behaving over here on the other side of the world. Needless to say, I was shocked to learn that you had become such a ruffian! I mean, do these women even know that you are cheating on them? And with so many other women at that? Or are they even aware of your legal troubles?"
Madison and Kristina looked like they were on the edge of their seats, as if, at the very next moment, they would blurt out something that would bring attention to their table. But Alex was too quick for them and quickly refuted his mother's words.
"What I do with my women is none of your business… And as for the legal troubles you keep mentioning, I have no idea what you are talking about. I have never been arrested or charged with a crime. The only time I was ever detained by the police was due to a misunderstanding. I don't know what compelled you to hire somebody to follow me around, but I must say, I am not pleased to learn that you have been stalking me. It ends now. Do you understand me?"
Diana looked like she wanted to say something, especially the remark her son had made about the many women he was involved with being "his" women. But she ended up biting her tongue and lowering her head. It was only then that one of the twins spoke up. And it was Kristina, who was the far more boisterous of the two.
'Alex! You aren't actually…. Sleeping with these women, are you? How could you do this to me?"
There was a look of visible confusion on Alex's face as he stared at his older sister with a dumbfounded expression. How was this any of her business? And what did she mean by "how could you do this to me?"
As far as he was aware, he was not in any form of prior relationship with this girl other than the fact that they had been raised as siblings. He was just about to ask what the hell she was talking about when Madison spoke up. Her face was beat red, and she could not even look Alex in the eyes while she spoke in a rather timid voice.
"Alex… Did our promise mean nothing to you?"
This was the second time these girls had mentioned a promise, and Alex had no memory of this. But now that they were acting as if they were jilted lovers, he had no choice but to ask.
"What the hell are the two of you talking about? Promise? What promise? And why do you care who I sleep with? You are my sisters, not my wives…"
The two twins looked at one another and both shared the same sullen expression on their identical faces. At the same time, they had both spoken the same phrase in a voice so low that Alex had not even heard them.
"Alex… you dummy!"
Alex was just about to ask what the girls had said when the first course arrived at their table. The waitress could tell the atmosphere was a bit awkward between the group, but she served them their plates nonetheless, and was quick to abscond from the scene, but not before making a slight comment.
"Enjoy!"
The waitress quickly scurried off, while Alex focused on the two girls and their strange expressions. Just what kind of promise did he make to his two sisters when he was little more than a child?
