Chapter 53 - I NEED REFRESHING
"Thank you for helping me today." Lucas said to his three co-workers, after he managed to avoid the media crew.
Even though Lucas had answered some of the questions about his life with Ellena, they were still curious and bombarded him with other questions. It was enough to worry him.
Lucas didn't want to be too public about his relationship with Ellena. He was sure that the media crew would continue to find out who the real Ellena was. They will not stop to thoroughly explore the ins and outs of Ellena. Ah, what if the whole world knew about the caste difference between himself and his wife. Maybe it will bring new havoc for him.
It wasn't the ridicule of others that he was afraid of. In fact, he was very worried about his parents who might also do the same thing, namely demeaning Ellena. Ever since he knew Ellena's true figure, for some reason he became unwilling if someone looked down on her.
"That's what friends are for. At least your good name is back and you don't have to worry about the bad news anymore," replied Adley, who always gave positive support to his friend.
"Yeah, you're right." Lucas whispered, nodding his head slowly.
After that, it looked like Alex and Reino had said goodbye to Lucas, because they had some work to finish soon.
Reino is one of the employees at Lucas' company who replaces Steve's position. Lucas wasn't that close to him, but they were friends. Friends from school.
The reason Lucas asked Reino to join his company, was because he knew about the man's abilities. He also knew that Reino was a very honest and responsible person, so he thought that the man would be very suitable to be invited to cooperate in advancing his company. He hoped that his choice this time was not wrong.
After Alex and Reino left the place, Lucas and Adley entered the CEO's room which was right in front of them.
They sat on the sofa, leaning back, just to relax. Every now and then Lucas let out a slow breath. It seemed that he was very relieved to be free from the pursuit of the media crew.
Meanwhile, Adley seemed to be observing Lucas' face carefully and quite seriously. I don't know what made him like that, what was clear was enough to awaken and make Lucas feel surprised.
"What do you see?" Lucas raised an eyebrow slightly in surprise.
Adley seemed to settle into a sitting position, without taking his eyes off Lucas' face. He then placed his elbows on the arm panel of the sofa, before finally responding to Lucas' question.
"I see that there is not the slightest lie on your face, when answering the media crew's questions earlier?" said Adley who was either asking a question or a statement. He looked at Lucas with a questioning look on his face.
"What do you mean?" Lucas immediately raised his voice. He really didn't understand what Adley was saying.
"Of course I'm not lying. What lies do you think I've told in public?" Lucas added, staring at Adley's face with a frown. His best friend had really messed up his mood in no time.
"Including about Ellena too?" Adley said which made Lucas jump up a bit, then rolled his eyes.
'Oh, what does this mean? Why is he suddenly asking that far?' Lucas whispered to himself.
"Why are you silent? What I said was true, wasn't it?" Adley's question this time made Lucas widen his gaze.
Looks like Lucas is starting to have a hard time looking for the most appropriate answer. "I don't understand your question," he replied, looking away in any direction, making Adley feel that Lucas was lying to him.
"Come on, Lucas ... we're friends. So, why are you hiding it from me?" Adley tried to persuade Lucas to speak the truth.
"I'm getting more and more clueless about where you're talking, Adley!" Lucas said as if deliberately trying to escape.
Adley knew very well who his best friend was. Lucas is not a fool who has to always get an explanation for every question. Let alone for trivial questions, he can solve even tough questions so easily. So, how could he not understand Adley's question this time, which of course was clear where it was headed.
Adley looked away for a moment, then looked back at Lucas. "Are you sure you're going to continue with your plan?" He asked which suddenly made Lucas frown.
"Plan?" Lucas immediately put on a confused expression. "What plan do you mean?" He asked again.
"Plan your agreement." Adley answered without further ado. It seemed he was tired of giving Lucas vague questions. 'Why did he suddenly become such a fool?' He cursed in his heart.
"Agreement ...." Lucas paused as he lowered his gaze, as if he was thinking about something.
"Your marriage agreement is only 6 months." Adley's words instantly made Lucas look up again.
He just realized that his marriage to Ellena will only last for 6 months. The agreement was agreed upon from the start. Adley's question this time, actually made it seem as if he was confused about what answer to give.
"Are you sure you won't—"
"Stop! Looks like you've misunderstood me." Lucas interrupted, seeming to deny what Adley was about to say. Even though his best friend hadn't finished speaking, he looked as if he already knew what Adley was going to talk about.
Adley chuckled a little forcedly. "You may be able to lie to me, but not with your heart." Adley quipped later.
Once again Lucas was successfully made to die of lice. He fell silent again, as if confirming Adley's words. However, somehow with his own feelings. Only he and God know.
Even though Adley tried to guess what was going on in Lucas's heart, he still wasn't sure how Lucas was feeling right now.
"Okay, if you don't want to answer my question. I also don't really want to know. It's just that you need to remember one thing. We will only realize and understand the meaning of having, after we know how it feels to lose. As friends, I don't want you experience it. So, think carefully!" Adley got up from his seat, after he managed to give Lucas a hard slap with his words.
Lucas froze in his seat. Even when Adley was out of the room, he still didn't budge. Adley's words gave him a little awareness. Yes, that's true.
Lucas had experienced what it was like to lose someone he loved so much. However, still he was still confused by Adley who suddenly linked it with Ellena. 'Could he possibly think that I already have feelings for that woman?' Lucas muttered.
"Ah, what kind of joke is this?" Lucas started a monologue, after twisting his heart and mind over and over again. He just wanted to be sure about his current feelings.
"Ellen is beautiful, awesome, cute and adorable, but it's impossible for me to have more feelings for her." Lucas turned his heart and mind back.
For some reason he also felt that his heart and mind were out of sync. His heart said that Ellena was a very admirable figure and her beauty deserved thumbs up. However, his thoughts were the exact opposite. His mind kept trying to deny everything that was in his heart.
"Yeah, okay. I do like and admire that woman, but it's just a feeling of liking, nothing more. Like and love are distinctly different, aren't they?" He asked who knows. "Ah, never mind. Besides, he already has a girlfriend."
The sudden ringing of the phone rang suddenly brought Lucas back to his senses. He immediately reached into his jacket pocket, then looked at the screen of the cellphone.
"Ellena?" Lucas said, raising an eyebrow. "What's he calling me for? What a bummer!"
Without waiting long, Lucas immediately shifted the green icon on his cellphone screen.
"Yeah, Elle, what's wrong?" Lucas asked without further ado, right after the phone was pressed against his ear.
"Have you finished the interview?" Ellena's question instantly made Lucas frown.
"Did you see the broadcast?" Lucas asked curiously.
"Yes, of course."
"Please don't be so big-headed! What I said during the interview earlier, it's not true at all. I just wanted to—"
"Keep the image?" cut Ellena who seemed to have understood the meaning of Lucas' words. "I already know. Besides, how could you compliment me like that." She added with conviction.
"N-no—"
"Never mind, I didn't call you to discuss that." Again, Ellena interrupted Lucas' words.
'Oh, shit! How dare she cut me off!" Lucas grumbled in his heart.
"Then why did you call me?" Lucas was surprised again. He shouldn't have been so hasty in discussing the interview. The proof, Ellena also doesn't really care. However, at least it made Lucas feel calm, because he no longer needed to discuss the results of the press conference earlier.
"Lucas, may I come out for a moment?" asked Ellena in a slightly dubious tone.
"Where are you going?"
"I need refreshing. I'm bored if I have to stay at home like this. Can I?" Ellena whined suddenly spoiled.
Lucas smiled when he heard Ellena's adorable voice. It felt like he wanted to pinch her sharp nose.
"I won't allow it!" Lucas said then as if he wanted to keep his original attitude towards Ellena.
"Just this once, please!" Ellena started pleading, then said, "I promise it won't be long."
Lucas seemed to be massaging his forehead slowly as if he was thinking about the decision he was about to make. Should he give permission to Ellena or not?
'What if later he met with the media crew. I'm sure after the press conference, they'll definitely find out about Ellena.' Lucas whispered to himself.
"Where are you going?" Lucas asked to confirm.
"To the mall or cafe maybe." Ellena answered, sounding a little doubtful. It seemed that she wasn't quite sure about her intentions either.
"You ...." Lucas paused for a moment, when he just remembered something. "You didn't make an appointment with that guy, did you?" He added spontaneously.
"Which man are you referring to?"
"Your lover!" Lucas answered in a curt tone.
