Chapter 718: It's Not easy To Make A Dragon's Fortune
Lisa actually looks really cool when she's working seriously.
I was seated on Lisa's table while watching my Infrid carefully take out each piece of the plates before changing them back to their original forms to prepare them for her potion.
I noticed that she did not use the entire dragon part that she had brought out before she made use of my Pack of Folding to transform it back into a plate again.
Like she would take out a dragon scale, break off a small bit of it to use, then place the rest aside.
The same went for everything else where even for the bones she would only sand off a part of the bone to use the dust collected instead of using the entire bone.
Right now, her brows were scrunched up slightly as she narrowed her eyes at the task in front of her.
She was pouring the bottle of dragon blood into a crucible until it reached the amount she needed before very carefully putting the bottle back inside my Pack of Folding.
She then very carefully poured it into the cauldron with the rest of the parts that she had already prepared inside.
Lisa sucked in a breath before letting it out, taking the time to compose herself before she stepped towards the cauldron.
She chanted the spell to ignite a fire below the cauldron, waiting for it to boil before she started to infuse her mana into the mixture.
I leaned a little closer as the surface of the mixture started to change colours, starting from a deep violet colour before shifting to a cool blue. Then it started churning before the water turned a sickly green colour and the bubbles seemed to get even more violent.
Now I felt a little worried about that but I refrained from saying anything lest I disrupt Lisa's concentration.
She continued to stir the cauldron while infusing her mana without showing any concern about the fact that it was literally bubbling quite violently now.
Then, just as sudden as the bubbling had started, the surface of the liquid calmed down and settled on a bright yellowish orange colour.
Oh~ Did she manage to do it? In one try as well?
That was what I was thinking before she let out a deep sigh and took a step back from the cauldron.
"Well damn… I thought having Aster here would make sure it would succeed…"
I tilted my head at her, "I take it this is a failure?"
She nodded, "The records explicitly say that the potion itself 'looked like a rainbow had been captured in a bottle with all the colours swirling around inside'. And a lot of alchemists have made it turn into this orange colour and they were all failures."
I stood up from the table and went towards her, peering into the cauldron to check the mixture out for myself.
It honestly looked like orange juice and it even smelled a little like it. Wait… It actually smells like orange fizz.
"Is this safe to drink?" I asked.
Lisa giggled, "Smells sweet doesn't it? I wouldn't recommend drinking it though, it'll give you a stomachache and it doesn't exactly have any special effects."
Hmm… I have the [Iron Gut] boon so it should be safe for me right?
I turned to her, "I'll try it a little."
"Eh? I just said it would give you a stomachache though?"
"It'll be fine if it's just a little right? I wanna see if I can figure out what's wrong with the taste," I half lied.
Hey! It smells like a sugary drink! I want to at least try it! And it's safe for me, right?!
Lisa hesitated for a moment before shrugging, "I'll go prepare some stomach medicine…"
"Oh, you don't need to worry about that. I can heal myself, can't I?"
"Mnn… But I'm worried it might hurt you so much that you can't cast the magic… It's alright, it'll just take me a while to make it."
"It'll be fine, Lisa. Look~"
I took a ladle and scooped up a little bit of the liquid before taking a sip from it.
The moment the liquid went into my mouth… A huge wave of disappointment came over me.
It was absolutely tasteless.
And here I thought this would actually taste like orange fizz and I would just go ahead and drink the entire cauldron if that was the case…
Nevertheless, I swallowed it anyway, feeling my [Tastes Like Agony] boon come into effect and inform me of what the ingredients of the potion was.
Not exactly helpful since I already knew what the ingredients were though.
I turned to Lisa, only to see her already running towards me with a worried look on her face.
"Nooo!! Why did you do that, Aster?! How is your tummy?! Does it hurt?! Quickly cast the healing spell on yourself!"
"Lisa, calm down, I'm fine," I assured her.
Also… 'Tummy'? Really? I didn't think Lisa would be the kind of person to use that word. That's cute though.
"Are you sure? Do you feel a rumbling in your belly now? You might not feel it now but it might kick in later!"
"Lisa, I'm really ok. Seriously. I have a good stomach."
"Are you sure? There's no need to hold back, you know?"
I giggled at her, "I didn't know you would be fussing over me like this, Lisa."
"Of course I would! You're my soulmate, remember? There's no way I will let you get hurt if I can help it! Now hold on while I craft that stomach potion."
I grabbed her by the arm before she could run away from me, "Lisa… I have a skill that negates poisons that I ingested. I am fine."
She didn't seem completely assured of that but at least she wasn't panicking anymore.
I decided that I should just change the subject and, incidentally, the boon actually gave me an idea.
"Lisa… Just asking… Has there been only one of these potions ever discovered?"
"That is known about? Yes. Because I have no doubt there's someone out there with a Dragon's Fortune potion that has chosen to keep it to themselves."
I guess I wouldn't be surprised to know that either since I know for a fact that I wouldn't be advertising to everyone around if I actually had some legendary artefact in my storeroom.
Just like how I wasn't going to advertise to everyone that I have a whole bunch of dragon materials in my Pack of Folding.
"In that case… Do we know where the potion came from?" I asked.
Lisa grinned at me, "Yes, it was clearly recorded which Dungeon the potion was dropped in but the drop is a random one, Aster. There is no guarantee that you would get it even if you were to go and challenge that Dungeon."
Well… There goes my plan of trying to find one so that I could drink it and figure out its ingredients.
Lisa continued, "Besides… My main goal of trying to make this potion isn't to actually get one, you know?"
I nodded, "I know. Your main aim is to be the first one to create it so that you could have something to help you with your application to the main Aerialla Academy right?"
She nodded, "It's just in case that libido potion isn't enough to get them to take me seriously. I figured that if I were to be able to craft a legendary potion like that, they would definitely not turn me away."
"Isn't that libido potion also something that would be the first of its kind though?"
She waved her hand in the air vaguely, "It would. But there's no telling if there's stupid prudes within the committee at the Academy that might think this is not good enough for me to be recognised. Anyway… If I can make this, I would get even more leverage when I'm there as the only person who knows how to create Dragon's Fortune!"
"Mmm… I see…" I muttered before turning back to the cauldron. "So do we even know why this failed?"
Lisa's face turned serious, "I have a few hypotheses but nothing solid. My first assumption was the amount of mana put into it might be wrong but I don't think that's the case. The other guess I have is that the binding agents I used might also be causing it to fail but I also have nothing that I can use to confirm whether this was really the case…"
In other words, we have absolutely no idea what is wrong and we're basically still stuck at square one.
I turned to Lisa, "Well… Seems like we're still stuck then. What can I do to help you? Should I also try to make one as well?"
Lisa quickly waved her hands in denial, "Oh, no, no! I can't make you do that! But if you ask how Aster could help me… I actually do have something that I need your help with if you don't mind?"
"Oh? What is it?"
"I'm horny… Can I suck you off now?"
Ah… I should have seen that coming…
Whatever, fine… Let's just do it once…
