Chapter 868: Dungeon Stone Charger
Very thankfully, that was the last room and the next door led us to an empty hallway.
I stepped out and sucked in a deep breath while stretching myself.
"Ok… That trap is just straight up diabolical. I can’t believe something like that even exists…" I groaned.
"Really? I kind of liked it though," Lisa giggled.
"And would you still like it if there were other people and you got stuck in a room with some stranger?"
"Hmm? That’s fine right? I’ll just fuck them instead of letting them fuck me~ And if they try to fuck me instead, I’ll just kill them~"
…
I’ll just keep my comments to myself…
I looked around the empty corridor that went towards the left and right, trying to decide which direction we should head towards.
I was saved from making a decision as a massive group of monsters appeared from one side and started running towards us.
Well, I guess now we know where we should head towards in order to clear out the mons-- Wait a minute…
"Why does it look like they are… Running from something?" I asked.
Right as those words left my mouth, an even bigger monster turned the corner and slammed itself into the Dungeon wall with a loud crash as it could not turn fast enough, flattening several of the monsters in the process.
The monster looked like a mass of rocks that had been clumped up together to form the shape of a rhino and its massive size practically took up the entire corridor.
[Name: Dungeon Stone Charger
Race: Monster
Stats:
300 Strength
100 Dexterity
500 Endurance
150 Magic
Magic Skills:
Geomancy (Tier 1)]
What the heck is with those stats?! Those aren’t normal stats in a D ranked Dungeon on the first floor!
Wait… Unless the trap from earlier also teleported us to a deeper floor?
Crap, now’s not the time to think about that! There’s a monster stampede right in front of us!
"Aster? Are we able to stop this?" Lisa asked.
"If… If it was just the monsters at the front I might be able to… But not with the big one behind as well…" I admitted.
"Should we start running then?"
"Yes."
All of us turned and started running down the other direction.
I gave my Shadow Guards a mental command and they half turned their bodies and started flinging spells and arrows down the corridor, knocking down or killing the monsters at the front of the stampede.
I was hoping that they might slow them down but the monsters behind them simply plowed through them and those that tripped over and fell ended up getting stepped on and crushed anyway.
None of these even phased the Stone Charger in the slightest as it simply trampled those that were in its way without mercy.
I focused on running first, aiming to increase the distance between us first before we try to deal with the horde again.
The corridor turned right a few metres ahead and I was thinking of using that as a chokepoint once we got past this corner.
When we turned, I noticed that the corridor went ahead for a dozen or so metres before ending in another right turn, just like the corridor we had just come from.
No way… Don’t tell me this floor was a square? Where’s the stairs to the next or previous floor then? Is this another trap?
I pushed those thoughts aside for now and focused on the corner, waiting for the monsters to reach that spot.
The moment the first monster appeared, all of us fired our spells and arrows at them once more.
This time, we managed to create a pile up as the monsters had to slow down to turn lest they crashed into the wall, resulting in a number of them crashing into the monsters in front of them that were shot down or tripping over the corpses in front of them.
Only a handful of them managed to get back up to their feet to continue running before the Stone Charger slammed into the corner, flattening all the monsters that had been there a split second ago into meat paste.
It then used the wall behind it to kick itself forward, continuing its charge towards us again.
Just to test it out, I shot a [Static Bolt] at it, hoping that it might paralyse it even if only for a moment.
The electrical bolt flew towards the giant lump of stone and struck it on the head, exploding itself into electrical sparks.
The only reaction that got out of the monster was a dismissive snort as it continued charging forward, completely unaffected by my spell.
Damn… So it’s immune to being stunned…
We went back to focusing on running away from it again as we reached the next turn to see… The exact same corridor where it ended with a right turn.
Did we miss seeing the staircase? Because after we left that trap room, the doors disappeared and there were no stairs to be seen either.
Was this floor special where we needed to beat this monster before it appeared or something?
Right as I thought about that, one of the walls at the corner that we just passed by suddenly slid open.
I thought the stairs might be there but it turned out to be a room full of monsters instead.
The monsters seemed to be surprised to see us for some reason, right before the wall behind them suddenly slid forward and pushed them out of the room and into the corridor.
The group of monsters seemed utterly confused until they saw the Stone Charger running towards them and quite a number of them let out a scream before they started to run after us.
What the heck?! Is this some kind of monster crusher or something?!
Hold on a moment… Is Hiandoca doing this?! Did she lie to us about needing to clear out the monsters when she could have just done this on her own just so that we would come here?!
No wait… I don’t think she would lie to me like that… She could have just told me she had done this and still needed my help and I would have still accepted her request without needing to resort to lying to me…
I’m guessing she either has another motive for getting me here or there was another reason she needed me to be here to clear the monsters or it wouldn’t work.
Maybe it had something to do with how mana works in Dungeons or something?
Oh right, she did say that monsters are created from the Dungeon’s mana so I guess if the monsters were killed by other monsters within the Dungeon or died to its own trap, the mana will just go back to the Dungeon.
But if there were outsiders around… Then the mana might flow into us instead?
I dunno, that’s just my guess… And I’m not exactly in a position to stop and think right now since there’s a whole bunch of monsters running after us.
Damn it… I’m assuming that we’re going to need to clear out a set number of them or even take down the Stone Charger before we can get out of here…
Better get to work then…
We fired another salvo at the monsters to try and create another pile up, which we managed to do since most of the monsters were still panicking at their sudden predicament and did not react fast enough to our interference.
Pretty much all of them ended up getting crushed by the Stone Charger, leaving only splatters of blood and viscera in its wake.
We continued running towards the next corner until I realised that Lisa seemed to be struggling.
"Lisa?"
"Mnnggh… I’m… I’m fine…" She gasped.
She most definitely isn’t.
Obviously, she didn’t have the stamina to keep running at this pace.
I immediately swept her off her feet and carried her in a princess carry in my arms and continued running towards the next corner.
"Aster?!" She gasped.
"Quiet. Try shooting a [Laser] at it and see if it’s effective. I’ll carry you."
She didn’t try to argue and immediately started chanting the spell to cast the magic I asked her to.
When we reached the corner, she fired off the spell and I took the risk to turn and check how the spell fared against the monster.
The ray of light struck the head of the monster and seemed to pierce a hole through it only to stop just a few inches in, failing to penetrate all the way through.
Damn, what kind of stone is that? If we kill it, can I make use of that stone to create some armour?
Right at that moment, the wall beside us opened to reveal another room full of monsters, all of them turning to snarl at us before the wall behind them started to move.
Right… Running first, think of how to kill Stone Charger later.
