Chapter 101: Beach
Chapter 101: Beach
In the distance, there was a clamor, and Chu Ge turned his head to look. It turned out to be the waves crashing high, and people were surfing.
Chu Ge asked Qiu Wuji, “Do you want to give it a try?”
Qiu Wuji smiled and shook her head. She wasn’t interested in such activities.
Although it looked lively, with many people cheering on the sidelines, it seemed like fun. But she had no interest. Such activities seemed a bit too basic for her.
Just like when she went to amusement parks and watched movies, she had no desire to participate. She believed that girls in this world should experience and try these things, but once she had seen and tried them, she didn’t feel a strong urge to engage further.
After millennia of cultivation, her mind was as calm as still water in many things.
Qiu Wuji didn’t know why she always lost her composure and became irritable in front of him. It was really inappropriate.
Since she didn’t want to play, Chu Ge also seemed to think it was normal. “You, whenever we go out, you always miss out on many experiences. Well, no wonder, these things are not challenging enough for you.”
Qiu Wuji smiled without answering, and Chu Ge didn’t continue the conversation. The two of them continued to stand hand in hand, watching the sea as if they could stand there for a whole day.
Qiu Wuji felt a little embarrassed. Even standing here and watching the sea was a kind of cultivation. She could stand here for a day, or even a year. But for Chu Ge, it was different… He took a long break from writing, came all this way, and now stood here so stiffly. It was a pity for him, indeed.
She thought for a moment and then turned around. “I’m going to try that, lying on a beach chair and sunbathing.”
Chu Ge didn’t realize the inner thoughts she had. He felt comfortable just standing and watching the sea together. When he saw Qiu Wuji turning around, he naturally turned his head and followed her.
But then he noticed something was wrong. “Huh? Weren’t you wearing a one-piece bikini? Why are you wearing beach shorts over it?”
Qiu Wuji walked ahead, and a subtle smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.
To be honest, wearing a one-piece swimsuit on top was fine, but she couldn’t stand the bottom part. When she saw others wearing swim shorts in the changing room, she changed into them.
She didn’t expect that this lascivious guy would be staring at her from top to bottom from the very beginning, especially at her legs. But in fact, he hadn’t been looking? He just stole a few glances at her upper body with his eyes?
Having a dirty mind but lacking the courage, how disappointing.
“Oh, you’re dressed strangely. People will make fun of you,” Chu Ge lamented as he followed along. “When we get back, I’ll teach you how to dress properly.”
Teach me when we get back, huh? But deep down, you don’t want me to reveal too much for others to see, do you? Qiu Wuji suddenly felt like laughing. Instead of addressing his comment, she lazily asked, “Which beach chair did we rent? Don’t tell me you didn’t rent one.”
Chu Ge took a look at the number on the iron ring he held and smiled. “This way, follow me.”
There was a large sunshade and a small wicker table with some drinks and beverages placed on it. The two loungers were positioned next to the table. Both of them comfortably lay down, closing their eyes and watching the waves in the distance.
“Do we have to pay extra for the drinks on the table?” Qiu Wuji asked.
Chu Ge glanced at them. There were prices listed, but they weren’t unreasonably expensive. “Go ahead, they’re not too pricey.”
Qiu Wuji poured herself a glass of orange juice, leaned back on the lounger, and sipped through the straw.
Chu Ge couldn’t help but tease, “You’re becoming more and more bourgeois.”
“What does bourgeois mean?”
“Um… it generally means pursuing a refined lifestyle.”
“I’ve practiced diligently for countless years, is it not just to enjoy the carefree life of immortals? Or let me ask you, when you work hard to earn money by writing, don’t you want to have a better and more comfortable life? Why is that considered bourgeois?”
“Well…” Chu Ge honestly admitted, “I don’t really understand the meaning of that word either… but you seem to have that kind of vibe.”
Now that they were on the topic, Qiu Wuji became curious about his pursuits. “Don’t you pursue a refined lifestyle?”
Chu Ge thought for a moment and replied, “My pursuits are a bit more straightforward. Making money is mainly to buy a house, a car, and get married. I haven’t really thought about anything else. I’ve heard people say that the quality of life isn’t just about having money, but mainly depends on the kind of wife you marry.”
Qiu Wuji: “…”
Chu Ge continued, “Now I think they’re right. My quality of life is pretty good now.”
His words were clearly flirting, but Qiu Wuji couldn’t be bothered to respond. She focused on drinking her orange juice.
It seemed like she was responding to him with practical actions: Wake up, you don’t have a wife, and you have to pour your own orange juice.
However, Chu Ge didn’t care about this implied response at all. He happily poured himself a glass of orange juice. Pouring for oneself is nothing; others still pour for their wives… At least she will make tea for him at home.
Sipping his orange juice, his eyes rolled around Qiu Wuji’s strange one-piece swimsuit and swim trunks, carefully probing as he asked, “The sun is so intense. The sunshade can’t completely block it. Do you want to apply sunscreen?”
Qiu Wuji’s gaze fell on another couple not far away.
The man was applying sunscreen to the woman, and she lay there comfortably with her eyes closed, like a contented little cat.
The man also closed his eyes in comfort, like a sly fox who had gotten what he wanted.
A win-win situation.
But Qiu Wuji didn’t feel that being rubbed with sunscreen by a man was in any way comfortable. Just the thought of it was revolting.
She glanced at Chu Ge’s expectant gaze and lazily said, “Sure.”
Chu Ge was ecstatic and immediately took out the sunscreen. “I…”
Before he could finish his sentence, the sunscreen bottle automatically opened, and in the blink of an eye, it covered the exposed skin on Qiu Wuji’s clothes, glistening with oil.
“…” Chu Ge stood there with his mouth half-open, almost dropping the bottle from his hand.
Qiu Wuji leisurely said, “Should I apply a layer for you too?”
Chu Ge felt inexplicably bitter and indignant. “What am I even doing here?”
“Dreaming,” Qiu Wuji retorted. “Wake up, Creator god. Stop indulging in fantasies about men and women and focus more on the plot.”
Chu Ge lay weakly on the chair without saying a word.
Qiu Wuji smiled lazily and didn’t bother with him.
Actually, this sunscreen was not comfortable at all. It was sticky and greasy. Qiu Wuji, as an immortal fairy, didn’t need this stuff and certainly don’t fear the sun… It seems that not everything experienced by mortal girls is suitable for her.
The two of them fell silent for a while, only the sound of the waves ahead, the laughter of children, and the cheers of the surfers, all intertwining and making the two of them even more idle.
“Do you find it boring?” Qiu Wuji suddenly asked.
“Huh?” Chu Ge was also enjoying the scenery. He found it quite beautiful… He was startled by her question and said, “Why would it be boring?”
“Standing or lying around like this at the seaside, doing nothing,” Qiu Wuji said. “For me, it’s a form of cultivation, but for you, it’s simply boredom.”
Chu Ge smiled and replied, “I’m not bored because you’re by my side.”
Qiu Wuji really wanted to say a few less teasing words, but when the words reached her lips, she didn’t say them.
It seemed like his words were quite genuine. When he said them, even his heartbeat didn’t change—it came naturally.
Qiu Wuji thought for a moment and deliberately said, “It’s only a moment now, so of course, you can say that. But if I were to stay here doing nothing all day, would you think this woman is crazy?”
Chu Ge laughed and said, “Being by the seaside is a form of cultivation. If you were to stay here for a whole year, it wouldn’t be strange at all. Who made me write a character like this? I can just rent a shack nearby and keep you company. As long as there’s internet, I can survive.”
“Indeed, it’s what you wrote,” Qiu Wuji mocked with a smile. “Now, do you regret writing a dull and tasteless woman? Maybe it would have been better to write someone enchanting, who knows what could have happened, like applying that oil.”
Chu Ge finally burst into laughter.
Qiu Wuji glared at him. “What are you laughing at?”
“Um… if I say something, you’ll think I’m being disgustingly cheesy. But Qiu Wuji, it’s better if you remember this sentence.”
“Hmm?”
“Qiu Wuji is the perfect woman, the fantasy in Chu Ge’s heart. There is no one better. Maybe others have their own merits, but what does that have to do with me?”
When Chu Ge said these words, he didn’t look at Qiu Wuji. He continued to lie lazily, squinting his eyes and looking at the distant sea and sky, as if he were just chatting casually.
But Qiu Wuji was watching him.
That smiling face under the sunlight, speaking firmly without any hesitation.
As long as I have you, it’s not boring.
Somehow, the sea breeze feels so comfortable today. Could it be because of the oil?
Even the laughter of the children became so pleasant to the ears.
Qiu Wuji lay quietly for a long time, watching the sun gradually set and the sandcastle left by the children being washed away by the waves, becoming a messy sight… The setting sun suddenly seemed to carry a hint of desolation.
