CH.107 New and Improved Overdrive
CH.107 New and Improved Overdrive
Morning. That means a morning routine. Now with the added layer of Upstart Goblin. I got two small silvers, two large silvers and a gold coin from it today.
But packs are what I’m going for. Today’s goal, a second Overdrive. And that means Pharaoh’s Servant is today’s set. At least until I get an Overdrive. Might go for something else if I get one.
But first things first.
Use a ‘Reprint token’ to open 1 pack of ‘Dark Beginning 1’ |
[Yes] [No] |
Nothing amazing here. Dust Tornado is ok, and the double Rain of Mercy isn’t that bad. The Exodia piece and Suijin are sadly doubles.
Use a ‘Pack token’ to open 1 pack of ‘Pharaoh’s Servant’ |
[Yes] [No] |
Couple more Gradius and a Jinzo. Even Wingweaver is nice. Having multiple space ships is either great, or terrible. I haven’t test driven one yet. But no Overdrive. I guess I can see how this is going to go.
Limiter Removal? That’s a self destructive card if I’ve ever seen one. Probably shouldn’t use that. Oni Tank T-34 is something, but I don’t think I should use it as a carriage. Little too terrifying for that.
There we go. At least I got one. Mirror Wall is also good to have, but it has an HP upkeep cost so that could be dangerous. Also, 7 Completed? If I install one onto Overdrive and choose to increase the defense, perhaps that would make the suspension better. Might have to try that out.
But anyway, let’s try to go for one more Overdrive.
And there is that. That didn’t take long. Also a second Jinzo. And another 7 Completed. Well this calls for a set change.
I think some Magician’s Force and Invasion of Chaos are in order. I still have 6 pack tokens so three of each it is.
Remove Brainwashing and Poison of the Old Man might see use, but other than that, a little bit of a let down.
(What about Spell Canceller?) Laura asked.
(Spell what?) I questioned as I looked at the three packs again. (Oh, that. Yeah. That's ... well something. That will definitely see use at some point.)
But the way I use it can wait. Invasion of Chaos comes first.
Another copy of both Big Koala and Des Kangaroo. I wonder if the world is trying to remind me of something. Not that I’ve forgotten in the first place. I just haven’t had the opportunity to summon Master of Oz.
But with that taken care of, time for some sleeves. And perhaps toploaders.
4-Starred Ladybug of Doom, Abyssal Designator, 3x Altar for Tribute, Anti-Aircraft Flower, Aqua Madoor, 4x Armed Ninja, Armored Starfish, 3x Arsenal Summoner, 2x Attack and Receive, Balloon Lizard, 2x Battle-Scarred, Battle-Scarred, Bite Shoes, Boar Soldier, Bombardment Beetle, 3x Bubonic Vermin, Burning Beast, 2x Burning Land, Byser Shock, 2x Checkmate, Chopman the Desperate Outlaw, Combination Attack, Continuous Destruction Punch, 3x Dancing Fairy [extra copies, he still has two more, including one in a sleeve], Dark King of the Abyss, Dark Scorpion - Chick the Yellow, 2x Dark Scorpion - Meanae the Thorn, Darkworld Thorns, Des Dendle, Electric Snake, 2x Feral Imp, Fenrir, Fiend Reflection #2, 2x Flame Swordsman, 3x Flying Kamakiri #1, 3x Flying Kamakiri #2, 2x Formation Union, Freezing Beast, Frenzied Panda, Frozen Soul, Gamble, Gather Your Mind, 3x Girochin Kuwagata, Goblin Calligrapher, Gravekeeper's Vassal, Griggle, 2x Hard Armor, Heavy Slump, House of Adhesive Tape, Infinite Dismissal, Inspection, Jar Robber, Kiseitai, 2x Metal Fish, Minar, Minor Goblin Official, 2x Molten Zombie, 2x Monster Egg, Nemuriko, Old Vindictive Magician, Nuvia the Wicked, 3x Penguin Knight, 3x Pineapple Blast, 3x Shadow of Eyes
100 sacrifices for 20 sleeves. Well some of them will be toploaders but anyway.
I used one sleeve on a spare copy of Overdrive and then I used 8 sleeves to make 2 toploaders so I could place both of them into toploaders. Then I installed 7 Completed on one of them to increase its defense. A blue 7 was painted on its side after the install. If that makes the ride better, I’ll install another 7 Completed onto my other copy of Overdrive. Or I could even install another onto this one. I still have 3 copies of 7 Completed.
Before breakfast, I also analyzed the magic toilet that is in the house. And my bed. And few other things. Perhaps I could make a pseudo bedroom into the core room. That might be nice. Might not have enough points for that though.
After breakfast I was with Christina getting ready to head out.
“Do we have everything?” She asked the two maids.
“Yes, Madam.” The older maid answered.
There were two maids that were going to come with us. One was the younger maid that had woken me up a couple of times and the other was one of the older maids. The older maid was named Aneesa and the younger one was Sana. And apparently, Sana was Aneesa’s daughter.
The two of them were carrying bags that I assumed to be magic bags.
“Brian, is everything good on your end?” Christina asked.
“I don’t really know what you wanted me to prepare other than our ride. And that is ready to go.” I responded.
“Then we are ready to go.” Christina said.
“I’ll see you in two days.” I told Alice before we left. She had fully recovered from her muscle pains.
“Take care. I’ll be waiting.” She responded. Not what I was expecting her to say. I thought she would beg to come with us. Perhaps Christina talked with her yesterday.
“Brian, I trust you’ll take good care of my wife. If I hear that you did something bad to her.” Brandon threatened me a little.
“You know I won’t do anything. Have some faith in me.” I told him.
“I will, once you bring her back here in perfect condition.” Brandon gave me an ultimatum.
“Then why didn’t you send some guards with us?” I asked.
“She said you won’t need them. At least I convinced her to take the two of them with you. Otherwise you could just pin them down and do whatever you want with them.” Brandon said.
… yeah, I don’t think one maid is going to make a difference in that. Not that I’m planning on doing anything weird or sexual to Christina. I think she is more likely to hit on me than the other way around.
“I promise, neither the monsters nor myself will lay a hand on your wife.” I promised Brandon.
“So you did plan on doing something! I’ll never let you have my Alice!” Brandon yelled at me.
“I see… that’s too sad. I guess it’s her fate to be locked in this house, forever.” I said quietly.
Perhaps I’ll rethink the entire kidnapping plan over the dungeon trip. That way, Alice can have her freedom back.
“Lord Brian, we should get going.” Aneesa reminded me.
“Ah, yeah. We really should.” I responded as I snapped out of my dangerous thoughts. Then I pulled out my new and improved Overdrive. Actually, it’s the old one, but it did get improved.
“Overdrive.” I said to call out our ride. It now had a large blue seven painted on its right side.
“Don’t touch those if you don’t want to accidentally kill anyone.” I told Christina as we got into Overdrive.
I was in the driver seat, she was next to me in the gunner position and the two maids were in the back.
“This carriage is quite interesting.” She commented.
“If you get the Card Summoner skill, I can give you one.” I told her. I have three copies of it and I can always go for more of them. Technically I only need two for myself, but having some extra ones would be nice. And I could only install 7 Completed onto mine, so that it could be distinguished from the ones used by others. Perhaps I’ll install Machine Conversion Factory onto the one I’ll give Christina. But I think I’ve sacked them all for sleeves so I’ll need to open up some Legend of Blue-Eyes again.
“Would you really? I would like that.” Christina said.
“Well you will need some way of getting to the dungeon. I’ll also give you something that can fly while at it.” I told her. I did also get multiple Gradius, so giving her one won’t be a problem.
“If you have flying monsters, why didn’t we just fly to the dungeon?” Sana asked.
“This is safer and my flying monsters can’t have all of us on them at the same time.” I answered.
I haven’t actually test driven Gradius or something like Cyber Falcon yet.
Our trip began just fine. I was holding down our speed while we were inside the town walls. We got some looks from passersby but that much is to be expected. You just can’t get used to this.
I drove us to the south gate and stopped there to let us through the gate. I didn’t recognize this gate guard. Apparently, Mario wasn’t holding this gate like he usually would. Perhaps he is taking some time off to grieve his loss. … fuck. I shouldn’t have thought about that. I don’t need the reminder of my own fuck up. I need to focus on the here and now, not on some what ifs.
I opened the door so that the guard could see inside.
“Madam Christina. Good morning.” The guard greeted her.
“Good morning. We’ll be heading out. Please open the gate.” Christina said to the guard.
“Of course, Madam. Have a safe trip.” The guard said before opening the gate for us.
Now that we were outside, I was trying to feel the difference between my old Overdrive and this improved version. I think this is better but I might just be imagining it.
“I was expecting a more rough ride based on what Alice told me. But this isn’t bad.” Christina said to me.
“I did try to improve this thing, but I’m not sure how large the difference actually is. It’s still not as good as I’d like it to be.” I told her.
“I don’t believe you can have a much smoother ride on these roads. Unless you fly.” Christina commented.
“I guess not.”
… wait a second. Fly? Could I fuse an Overdrive with Gradius to make a flying car?
(Most likely not.) Laura commented. (Your cards fuse into Fusion monsters and if you don’t have a correct fusion monster it will most likely not work.)
(We might still want to try. I made the fusion Jenna without any card at all, so it’s possible.)
(Well it will likely cost us nothing to try, but don’t get your hopes up, Master. I believe it will fail.) Laura said. (We could also have a dragon carry Overdrive in its claws, but that would still cause some shaking.)
(Yeah, let’s not do that. We can use it for prisoner transport or something, but not for actual passengers.)
I had really sped up Overdrive. And with speed, I could feel the improvement from the 7 Completed. This thing was a lot smoother than it was previously. Unlike when I was getting people to deal with the wyvern, this time the fast speed over the uneven terrain really didn’t feel terrible. It wasn’t perfect, but noticeably better. The speed we were moving at was good enough that we would make it to the dungeon on one Overdrive. Compared to the carriage speeds at which it would take just over three hours to get there, we were going over double their speed. And that was a carriage from the north gate and we had that slow part inside the town.
“Are you sure this is safe?” Sana asked from the back seat. “Aren’t we traveling too fast?”
“We have seatbelts and there is almost nothing to crash into, so we should be fine.” I responded.
Between Laura and Overdrive itself, we had done a good job avoiding the trees as well as the boars on the plains. Autopilot for the win.
We made it to the start of the forest path that was cleared by Slot Machine. Well the trees were cleared. There weren’t any carriages from Bakula company here yet, as we had passed them on the way here.
“This might get shaky from now on.” I warned everyone. “I don’t think this road is up to standards.”
Sadly, we didn’t make it all the way to the dungeon on Overdrive. It just couldn’t deal with all the tree stumps still in the way. I guess that’s something that will still have to be dealt with.
“They have done well to get as far as they have in this short time.” Christina commented.
That’s true. Laura said that they were around 75% done with clearing the stumps and all the fallen trees had been collected by now. With just some more earth magic and just good old muscle strength, this road should be done soon. Then they just need to flatten a road on the plains that connects this forest road to the main road.
After we couldn’t make it with Overdrive anymore, we got on foot and kept going. The maids were against making Christina walk, but nothing could really be done about it. Well I could summon a monster for her to ride, something like Frenzied Panda, but she said it was fine so I let it go.
“I can see it.” Sana said as she spotted the dungeon entrance.
“So we made it.” Christina said.
“And without any trouble. Now we just need to make our way through the dungeon.” I commented.
“I believe you’ll take care of that part.” Christina said.
“Well, I guess I should.” I told her as I pondered what monster to use. Or perhaps what monsters. I probably should let Performance of Sword play around in the dungeon as she wanted to fight once in a while.
“Performance of Sword.” I called out my summon.
She appeared from her blue card.
“Master, what can I do for you today?” She asked.
“I need you to clear a path for us through the dungeon. Can you do it alone or do you need help?” I asked.
“I can do it alone, but it will go faster if Master summons some help for me.” She said.
“Then I’ll do that.” I told her as I pulled the second card from the collection. “St. Joan.” I called on her. I’ve been using these two a lot lately, but who cares? Dark Magician might get jealous, but I had him help last time I was in the dungeon. And Vampire Lord will get his chance when we get to the dhampirs. Perhaps I’ll even summon Vampire Genesis there.
“You two, clear the monsters so we can get to the core.” I ordered my summons to act.
For us, it was a leisurely walk to the core room, as we followed the bodies of the slain monsters as we walked. I used my terminal to absorb all of their bodies as we went along, so that if some adventurers showed up, they couldn’t steal my points.
With a bit more walking, we made it to the core room. Now, finally it’s time to name the dungeon master. And perhaps the dungeon itself. 22_090 is not that memorable of a name.
