A random pokemon journey

Ruthlessness is mercy

Ruthlessness is mercy

I smiled at the curious little one and rubbed his head which got a pleased sound from the creature. "Damnit Alex the egg! That thing is from the egg isn't it!?" Birch questioned clearly not in the mood for teasing. "Yeah he is. Pretty cool isn't he?" I asked with a chuckle. "Normally I'd agree with you Alex but someone recorded Rayquaza descending and serpentine pokemon have suddenly gotten a lot of attention and not just the good kind either." Birch said seriously and I frowned. "You don't think someone would actually be stupid enough to try and snatch him from me do you?" I asked with a frown.-

"It's not a matter of if but rather when. The entire region is in a tailspin as people are flocking to anywhere with even a hint of snake like pokemon to try and find something similar to Rayquaza. That Feebas if we can even call it that at this point looks uncomfortably close to the legendary in the videos , especially with that whole floating without wings thing it's doing. I know you like to leave your pokemon free as much as possible so sooner or later someone is going to try and take the thing." Birch said with a tired sigh.-

"You know how that's going to turn out , I won't even have to lift a finger." I said sternly. "Believe me I wish I could forget the images I saw of Mt. Chimneys peak. Did you know that some people wanted you and your team detained on grounds of insanity? The leaders and champions of three different regions shot down those peoples idea with reports of times they had to do similar things. It's a mess Alex." he said seriously.-

"When it comes to people like team Magma my philosophy is simply that ruthlessness is mercy on yourself. These people are a cancer and need to be cut out , you've seen the result of what can happen if they are left to their own devices. This whole mess with Groudon and Kyogre would have happened without me either way. Damnit Birch Aqua woke up Kyogre all on their own as if to prove my point. I admit that my methods are rather brutal but not even you can deny that they are effective." I said firmly. The line went silent for a moment as I was sure that he was searching for anything to counter what I said but the facts were clear to see , I was right.-

"Okay fine! Yes I can admit that it works but that doesn't mean I have to like it! Those were people Alex , regardless of what they did or were planning to do they were sentient minds that you violently snuffed out. Logically I agree with what you did but morally I can't help but be disgusted by it." he said sadly. "You're a good man Birch but this isn't a subject where goodness comes out on top." I say honestly.-

"I know , just promise me you will at least try to keep the death toll as low as possible alright?" he asked and I groaned "Fine I'll TRY and use nonlethal methods to dissuade would be pokenappers." I said with emphasis on the word try. "That's all I ask , but enough about your violent tendencies. Lets talk about the little one." Birch said perking up at the mention of the newborn. "Not much I can say on the subject really besides that he can fly somehow. The little one hatched no more than ten minutes ago after all." I say honestly.-

"I can update you when I get him checked out in Mauville alongside a new pokemon I found in the area that used to be Slateport , a legion Spiritomb." I said seriously and the line went quiet again. "Please tell me you captured it and have it in stasis in a pokeball." Birch eventually pleaded. "I assumed there were plans to resettle the area and captured it yes. I am hoping to add it to my roster." I say honestly. "If anyone else were to say that I'd have them detained but you have this knack for doing illogical things so I can only wish you luck in that." birch said with a sigh.-

I could understand why he said that too as there was no case of anyone ever having a legion Spiritomb on their team. The things were powerful living masses of rage and resentment that simply didn't get along with others at all. This wasn't to say that you couldn't train them as it was possible but in exchange they were the only pokemon you could have as they had possessive tendencies. Like choke your dog to death because you petted it possessive.-

This of course led to those who were able to train the pokemon to be avoided by other trainers out of safety concerns. The pokemon could turn downright murderous if they thought someone was trying to intrude on their territory which in this case included their trainer. In exchange for all this baggage however the trainers got a single pokemon that could take the role of an entire team as it was just that strong and versatile. I would have passed up the pokemon as a candidate for my team had it not been for a single detail , it was newborn and thus impressionable.-

I was betting on this factor allowing me to integrate the pokemon into my team without it trying to kill off the rest of them. In a way I was trying to have the Spiritomb not develop that possessiveness at all. It will be tricky but I think it will pay off quite nicely if I succeed. After that I hung up with Birch and coaxed the little one into the dive pouch where it was just as cozy as it was in the air which was a relief for me.-

The little one was meant to be my water type after all so it not being comfortable in the stuff would nullify that plan. I made sure to feed the little one which sent it right to sleep and let us continue along the path of destruction. I had of course also bound the thing to a ball to keep anyone from trying to be sneaky and catch it since it was unbound. I didn't really plan to ball the little one ever though as it was legally small enough that it wouldn't be a problem in cities. It was about the size of a normal Ekans after all and those were free to be out of their balls.-

Going down this path of destruction left by Groudon turned out to be a good idea as we found a few people and pokemon in bad condition that the search teams likely missed since they were burried under debris. I called in the locations after doing what I can for them before moving on after help arrived to fly them to Mauville. Under Watsons leadership the city had become the trauma center for all those effected by this disaster as it was smack dab in the center of the path of destruction just to the side a bit and thus still intact.
