"Sounds like the lad had it handled just fine!" An old but jolly sounding voice appeared and I immediately assumed that it was Watsons since he was portrayed as such a person. "Indeed though the information on that Milotic has me concerned. I recommend that the egg be brought in for testing in human tampering." a younger but more serious female voice said and I assumed it was the rangers rep. "With all due respect I'd like to care for the egg and hatched pokemon if it's not too much of a problem." I said clearly stunning them.-
"Can you explain your reasoning?" the female voice asked firmly and I could almost feel that my next words could decide this matter so I chose to be honest. "Before the Milotic perished I told it that I would and I don't want to break my word if it can be avoided." I said calmly and the line went silent for a moment. "A respectable reason but what if we say no?" the woman asked clearly testing me. "Then I hope you have a good reason or we may have a bit of a problem." I said without backing down.-
"Wahaha! You've got moxie lad I'll give you that but you can relax since I doubt anyone would be better suited to caring for that egg than you , Mister variant specialist." Watson said clearly pleased with my answer. "That is indeed true , you have shown yourself to have a unique affinity towards and ability to command variants so after the tests are complete I see no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to keep the egg." the female voice said in a way that also sounded pleased with my answer.-
"It's settled then! Alex will bring the egg in for testing at Mauville and afterwards it shall be entrusted to him to raise , so long as he provides ample reports on it's progress of course." Birch said and Watson and the ranger rep both agreed. The other two left after that leaving only Birch and I on the line. "You'll have to forgive Marilyn for testing you like that as she has a bad habit of vetting people of interest to the league and you certainly qualify. She wasn't wrong though when she said you have shown an extraordinary affinity for variants , it's unprecedented in fact."
"You need to understand that most variants and legendries are highly independent and territorial so very rarely will more than one be on someone's team obediently. Yet as far as all indications show your entire team consist of such pokemon that get along as if they were not variants and a legendary at all , it's almost impossible to comprehend." Birch said seriously. "What about the full teams of variants that I read about online?" I asked confused. "In those VERY rare cases each of those pokemon were either related , had some form of synergy or weren't as obedient as you might be lead to believe."
"Your team has no shared parents as far as I can tell , nor due they synergize and even heavily clash in fact and yet they are perfectly well behaved like that was just totally normal to do for them." Birch explained seriously. This information caught me entirely off guard but after thinking about it I discovered that it made perfect sense. Until now I had simply taken my team acting the way they do as a matter of course since that was how the games worked so long as you didn't get the pokemon at a higher level than you can handle.-
But it made sense that in reality naturally arrogant or territorial variant pokemon would not want to share a trainer and that those that clashed would be even less willing to do so. It also made sense that variant pokemon would likely see their trainer as bellow them and thus be unruly and disobedient as a result. 'What was different about me?' I thought momentarily before the answer popped into my mind firmly and unquestionably , the system. Without the system I would just be some guy that would if I am being honest get killed in the wild shortly after arriving in this world.-
Yet with the system I was the single most exceptional human on the entire planet with the potential to in theory become something akin to a god. This wasn't a joke either as in the long list of abilities that I could get manipulating the very fabric of reality in various ways existed. It also should be remembered that if I gets a repeat of an ability it gets upgraded so if I were to get say healing another four or five times who was to say I couldn't heal the effects of aging itself or even getting the ability to resurrect someone.-
The thing is though that I had never kept the workings of the system from my team so it makes sense that they would be fine working under someone like me and getting along. There was no mistaking it either they did work under me , all trainers pokemon worked under their trainers. "I hadn't thought about it until now." I said honestly. "I know , I didn't say anything until now because I was worried that it would ruin whatever it is that you have going on but I guess the cats out of the bag already so there was no use hiding it anymore." Birch said apologetically.-
"It's fine , I'm just awesome like that is all." I said jokingly and he laughed. "Speaking of awesome things are you going to talk about that trick you pulled with the electrical polarities?" Birch asked and I didn't see why I shouldn't since anyone aware of how electricity works could figure out what I did. Hell I was almost expecting that Watson was going to end up using it against me in this upcoming challenge at some point.-
So I spent the next fifteen minutes or so explaining how it worked and that I started having Rune work it into his attacks the moment I learned he could change the polarity of his attacks freely. "This is all quite fascinating though not revolutionary by any means as a similar idea had been proposed with regards to the Magnemite species." Birch said after writing down a bunch of what I said. I ended the call after that and made my way back to Trode town to help out with the work there. It also helped that Vulcan was a fan favorite with children so despite it being against the law no one bothered us about my pokemon being out in town.-
Quite the opposite in fact as many were happy to see them as my team and I helped the construction workers and Joys tend the problems in town. The Joys were much more friendly towards me after all my help and some were even downright flirting with me which was slightly awkward since they all had similar looks. Honestly speaking even the two or three Jennies in town were more respectful and less suspicious of me , all in all I would say I had a pretty good public image.
