Chapter 136: Hopelessly in Love
Chapter 136: Hopelessly in Love
The street was busy and cars whizzed past. She waited patiently for the traffic lights and saw Mo Qingchen waiting on the opposite pavement with his hands stuffed in his pocket. People turned to look at him, especially employees who were just done with work. They lurked around, wondering who their boss was waiting for.
Qian Meng finally crossed and tapped on his shoulder.
"Why are you waiting outside?" she asked, looking at him weirdly.
"Didn't you ask me to put on a show to convince everyone we are hopelessly in love?" he asked, tilting his head to the side.
"And you thought waiting outside in the cold when you just recovered is a good idea?" Qian Meng asked in disbelief. "And you really think people will believe that Mo Qingchen, stuck-up extraordinary would wait outside for someone?" she scoffed.
"Well, they better believe it. Because I just waited seven minutes for you to arrive," he retorted snidely.
Qian Meng rolled her eyes and almost missed the car keys that were thrown at her. She scrambled to take them and then clutched it in her hand before going to the driver's side and opening the door.
She could see people gape and realized that with her hair undone and thrashing away with the wind, nobody could see who it was and people were genuinely flabbergasted that their boss let a woman drive his car. His precious car that only he touches.
Mo Qingchen slid in and Qian Meng finally smiled.
"I'm surprised you are letting me drive the car," she said. It was the same car she had driven without his knowledge.
"Well, you already drove it the other day. No point in making excuses or protesting now." He smirked. The knowing look made her want to strangle him. "I'll catch some sleep as you drive, okay? I feel tired."
Her eyes softened and she nodded. "Get some sleep."
The image of him collapsed on the floor flooded back into her mind and worry grew.
"Oh, I have to make a stop at the law firm. I'll drop off the agreement. I'll sign and return tomorrow or the day after, okay?" she said.
"So, law firm and then the appointment with a designer, right?" Mo Qingchen said.
"Correct." And then she sighed. "Some news is going to hit at eight and my phone is going to blow up with phone calls. If it goes our way, good. Or else, I'll have to look for a new way to clear my name."
Mo Qingchen was silent. "Did you make a risky gamble?" he asked quietly.
"No, I made an informed decision. It will go well. I just want to be prepared if it doesn't," Qian Meng shrugged.
"Understood." Mo Qingchen said nothing further. He placed his head back on the seat and pretended to doze. He rarely fell asleep. Even in the confines of his car with the scent of his car freshener and her mingling together and filling his nostrils, he was anxious.
He was worried.
And he couldn't sleep.
It was a while before the car stopped.
Mo Qingchen blinked his eyes open and saw Qian Meng undoing her belt. Her eyes flitted to his face and she looked surprised.
"Catch some sleep, okay? I'll be right back," she promised.
"Okay," he replied softly and fluttered his eyes closed once again.
Once she disappeared into the skyscraper, Mo Qingchen pulled his cellphone out and searched through the internet for all the posts on the crisis. His eyes filled with rage but he held it in. He made screenshots and bookmarked several pages before clicking the phone off.
From the corner of his eyes, Mo Qingchen saw her saunter back over to the car and enter. He pressed his eyes closed and felt her eyes on him. After a moment, the car started up and they were zooming down the road.
"Mo Qingchen," he heard her whisper after a long time. He stirred and blinked when he opened his eyes.
"Mm?"
"We've reached. Get up slowly." She wasn't impatient as he slowly woke up. He had fallen asleep without his knowledge. He stretched his shoulder and neck before turning to her.
"How long have we been here?" he asked slowly.
"Not long," she said calmly as she undid her seatbelts. The building they were parked in front of was a duplex with a fashionable exterior. He looked with interest at the architecture before trotting inside the building.
"Miss Yun," one of the younger employees approached them as soon as they entered.
"Ah, where is Daniel?" Qian Meng asked slowly.
"Daniel is in the office designing. Should I call him?" the girl asked.
"Yeah, I spoke to him about designing a new wardrobe. He said he would be free," Qian Meng stated. "Did he go into another creative period?" She chuckled softly.
"Yes!" the girl sounded abashed. "I thought you were just going to alter your clothing. But I'll call him right now," she said.
She scurried away up the stairs and Qian Meng leaned into Mo Qingchen.
"Choi Daniel. He's a very famous designer but you probably don't know him. His family has been in the fashion business for a long time… as in they used to be royal tailors." She raised her brow at him. "Daniel designs whatever he likes… wedding dresses, gowns, shirts… whatever he feels like. He really enjoys making full wardrobes and I love his clothes, so I buy my daily wear from him."
"You like your clothes, so I suppose that is good," Mo Qingchen responded dispassionately.
"You will like it too. He bases his designs on the likes of the person, their comfort and the fashion sense." She looked him over. "I suppose everything looks good on you, so it won't be a hard task to make your wardrobe."
Mo Qingchen smirked. "Shall I take that as a compliment?" he asked.
"I was just stating facts, no need to be flattered."
"Qian Meng!" she heard the yell and turned.
