Chapter 331: Language Of The Elements
SS-Rank Chaos Magic... I wonder if I can create that Chaos Elemental Sphere now? William thought as he waited for his Magic ability to return.
He received information of an upcoming Beast Tide from Blue Moon City's Mayor, so Atticus was sent to deal with the matter. The Mythical Rat Snake soared through the air at incredible speed, making William jealous of its ability to make hasty movements without triggering an Ascension.
His Magic returned after an entire day of waiting, just in time for the Far East Mistlands first snow to fall, dotting the landscape with white specks that stuck everywhere except the pit dug out by the Elements during William's Chaos upgrade.
He hadn't used Arrays to guard himself during the upgrade, since William could barely move without triggering the Heavens. It would take too long to cast an Array while controlling his strength, so there was no choice but to destroy some landscape.
It's just a few kilometers, really no big deal. Thankfully I didn't upgrade my other Elements to X-Rank first, otherwise this could have been a disaster.
He made another attempt at the Chaos Elemental Sphere, circulating his Chaos Mana in an orderly fashion to condense it into a tiny ball. The increased strength of the Chaos Element dispersed all the other Elements in the area during the process, but William was able to create a pin-sized ball of Chaos Mana.
Alright! There's progress! William exclaimed in his mind, but his comment seemed to incite the Chaos Element, becoming increasingly unstable until it exploded into a miniature shower of sparks that tore open three layers of space.
William's hand, that was previously holding the Chaos Ball, became covered in small cuts while his skin turned slightly discolored, the individual cells being slowly broken down into their component parts by the Chaos Mana. The Life Element was used to offset the damage, but he needed to fully open his Life Domain before the damage fully repaired itself.
-Health: 742820/750000
So much damage, despite all my defensive abilities... The Life Element is also very weak...
As William's vitality and defensive ability increased, so did the requirements to be healed by the Life Element. While a normal Golden Core Cultivator might be healed in an instant by the Life Domain, William was probably more comparable to an Ascension Realm Cultivator than he was one in the Tribulation Transcendence Realm.
If he were to lose an arm, the Life Domain would take a few minutes to restore the injury. Restoring more than one limb would be a challenge, and reattaching his head would be impossible.
The Recovery Talent was still incredibly effective, able to heal his entire body in an instant, but he still wanted to rely on it as little as possible.
He attempted to create the Chaos Elemental Sphere a few more times, but it still wasn't working out. William was forced to abandon his project and upgrade the Chaos Element again, this time for a hundred thousand Potential Points.
The purple shadow William appeared at the very start of the upgrade, opening its mouth to spit a pure white laser that broke into all colors of the rainbow before landing on William's body.
He still couldn't move quickly, so William was forced to accept the attack head-on, the skin on his chest pierced in one go while the muscles underneath absorbed the remainder of the move. His Life Element naturally wouldn't respond to his call, so the Recovery Talent activated, sealing the wound before the Chaos figure could attack once more.
"You don't have to do this." William said to the Chaos being, having not been restricted by the Sound Element yet.
The Chaos William opened its mouth to speak, but while its lips moved as if it were speaking English, what William heard weren't human words. Instead, a foreign language entered his ears, unlike anything he could ever imagine.
"П꩜T Ⳝ ɮѠƝT Tშ"
"But. I. Want. To."
System, what is that?
-It's the Language of the Elements.
It's... freaky.
-What, did you expect them to speak English? The Elements have existed for much longer than you, or even I have.
Even you? But you're old! And you're the Potential System, how can you be younger than the Elements you control?
-Excuse me?
The System didn't answer his second question, but mostly because it was annoyed at William's first.
Cough. I meant you're wise and powerful.
-Did you just cough in your mind?
...
He returned his attention to the Chaos Element, which was gathering Mana for another, more powerful mouth laser. Its jaws unhinged like a snake and prepared a white ball of Chaos Mana twice the size of its own head, the resulting aura making William slightly uneasy.
He slowly crossed his arms in front of his chest in an X-shape, careful not to trigger a Heavenly Tribulation during the upgrade. Even so, the first layer of space was torn, creating a miniature fissure that slightly tugged at William.
Since he couldn't use the Gravity Element, he had to lean backwards to counteract the pulling force of the spatial tear, achieving a delicate balance at a reverse angle of twenty degrees.
The Chaos ball reached William at this moment, destroying one of his arms and cutting into the muscles of the second. His immunity to knockback effect from the Fitness Talent triggered at this moment, preventing him from falling over from the force of the attack.
Seeing that its attack was ineffective, the Chaos Element scowled and called the Elements to release their Domains and cripple his defenses. The Death and Poison Elements complied, the poison toxifying his internal organs while the Death Element corroded his skin.
The Ice Element tried to freeze William over completely, but he shuddered slightly before it could completely cover him, becoming a cycle of freezing and shattering that did nothing but make William feel a little cold.
The Fire Element started to work with the Ice Element at this point, the sudden change in temperature from cold to hot trying to crack William's body like a coffee mug in the summer heat.
The Sound Element didn't seal William's hearing, but it sent waves of Mana throughout his body, destabilizing his insides and taking the initiative to shatter the Ice prematurely.
The Fire, Ice, and Sound Elements worked in tandem of each other, alternating heating, cooling, and shattering in a perpetual cycle that further reduced William's defenses. By the time the third Chaos attack landed, both of William's recovered arms were destroyed, while his chest caved in, and the Mana targeted his heart directly.
The Recovery Talent had no problem keeping William healthy, but not at a cost. His age increased by nine years before the Elements returned to his body. He grasped his knees and panted, surprised to find that the Poison Element had been sapping away at his stamina the entire time without rest.
I didn't upgrade the other Elements at all, but they seemed a little bit stronger this time... No wait, it's as if they were more coordinated. They knew exactly what to do to hurt me, rather than fumbling around without purpose.
Could it be? William thought as he looked at the shadowy Chaos figure that was merging back into his body.
