Chapter 28
Chapter 28: Make Up a Story
He went to the investigator’s office.
Smith knew who the investigator was.
“Mr. Smith, we meet again. I heard from Eve that you like to drink tea. Come and try my English black tea,” said the lead investigator with a smile.
He could tell that Smith was stunned.
“Okay, thank you.”
Smith sat down. He was picking up the teacup when he suddenly realized that Eve was also an investigator.
Eve?
So, Barrett was not the only investigator. Eve was one too.
Smith glanced over at Eve. Eve smiled at him.
“Smith, don’t be nervous. Actually, the reason I called you over today was just to chat.”
“I know that young people like to surf the internet and talk about conspiracy theories and how bad the country is.”
“Nevertheless, they are all rumors. What era is this? The development of technology has been going on for more than a hundred years.”
“The current science only needs blood tests and professional equipment to test things. There are many things that can be studied.”
The leader said with a smile.
Although he was denying rumors, Smith still felt uneasy.
“Leader, if you have any questions, just ask. You don’t have to say anything else.”
Smith appeared to be a little timid. However, he had no choice but to act timid.
He did not have a very powerful system, and he was not physically strong either.
He could not act tough even if he wanted to.
“Let’s continue to drink tea.”
“Don’t be nervous.”
“Today, we’ll just treat it as a chatting session.”
“Smith, your construction works are very fast. Your workers are also very good. Where did you recruit them from?” asked the leader casually.
It seemed like a normal conversation.
“Well, I recruited them from all over the country,” said Smith in a casual manner.
Smith was stunned. He had not seen the identity information of those robots.
“Really? Then, Smith, you have been deceived. Take a look at this information.”
The leader took the information from beside him and handed it over to Smith.
Smith took the information and looked at it curiously. He too wanted to know what problems the investigators had found.
Smith was dumbfounded after reading the information.
The engineering robots arranged by the system were all of the same age. They had the same place of birth, village, and school.
Everyone who knew them had either died, had dementia, or was in a vegetative state.
“System, how can you come up with this bullsh*t? If you don’t know how to fake them, then don’t!”
Smith roared in his heart, but it was useless.
“This is the information that you have? And you guarantee that there’s no problem? Even a fool knows that there’s a problem!”
Smith put down the information and said to the leader, “I don’t know what’s going on either. Do you believe it?”
“Of course, I do. Why wouldn’t I believe it? As long as it’s what you say, Smith, I’ll believe it.”
The leader chuckled and said, “You don’t have to say anything else.”
“I understand.”
Smith had nothing else to say.
The two of them were silent for a while. They then took a sip of tea.
The leader spoke again, “Smith, I want to know why there were strange things happening with your construction projects?”
“Ah? Strange things? I don’t think so,” said Smith who was feeling guilty.
“Maybe you haven’t noticed. Take a look at this information again.”
The leader took out another document and handed it over to Smith.
The document included information on the first toilet that Smith had built. It also included information on the subway Line 9 that had just started operating on the day before.
The special circumstances caused by the buildings’ attributes were all clearly recorded in the document.
After seeing all the information, Smith thought to himself, “How am I going to deceive them?”
It was impossible to tell them directly that it was all done by the system.
However, denying it would also be impossible because they were not fools.
They were all sitting here after all.
There was only one way to proceed and that was to spout nonsense.
“Leader, since you’ve found out, I’ll tell you the truth,” said Smith in a serious tone.
“Okay, go ahead.”
The leader nodded. He was all ears.
“Leader, you might not believe me when I tell you this. When I was young, I found a magic book that recorded the Secret Door Armor and the Feng Shui Secretary.”
“After studying the magic book, I had a deeper understanding of building houses. When I was in university, I also chose to major in architecture.”
“I integrated magic into architecture so that the buildings that I built would have special abilities.”
“In the end, I succeeded. But for some reason, these buildings with special abilities would always have some small problems.”
“Just like what has been recorded in this document. I actually only want the buildings to have positive attributes and not negative ones.”
“Unfortunately, my strength is not enough. This is the best I can do.”
“I am very sorry for the trouble that I have caused you.”
Smith started to spout nonsense whilst putting on a serious expression.
The leader had on a strange expression. “Was Smith trying to lie to me?” he thought.
After thinking for a while, the leader took a deep breath and asked, “Is that so? Then can you explain to me why the structure of the houses in the residential area is so hard? What is the principle behind this? Why would such a situation occur?”
“This is very simple. When the housing area was being relocated, I used magic to guide the ley lines into the foundation.”
“After combining magic with the ley lines of the whole city, I used the power evolved by magic to form a magic circle. The magic circle was then used to create the houses in the residential area.”
Smith was addicted to boasting. The more he got into it, the more ridiculous he sounded.
He used everything he had read from different novels.
The leader looked at Smith with a smile and nodded.
It was as if he was saying, “Go on, but I don’t believe you.”
