Chapter 270: Ability Users
Chapter 270: Ability Users
Xu Qipeng's mouth twitched as he said, "Captain Wu, couldn't you deliver the full report at once? Is it amusing to get us all excited for nothing?"
Wu Lian shrugged and replied helplessly, "Commander, you can't blame me. Everyone started planning before I could finish my report, and I didn't want to interrupt the discussion. It will be very rude of me to do that."
At this, the room grew quiet, leaving everyone speechless.
"....." Your nickname of 'Silver Tongue Captain' is truly well deserved.
With a sigh, Xu Qipeng waved his hand and said, "Continue your report."
Wu Lian's expression grew serious at Xu Qipeng's words, and he said, "From my conversation with that woman, it appears there are others with abilities, and these abilities vary greatly."
"She mentioned her team includes a middle-aged man with incredible strength, capable of lifting a car with one hand, and a college student who can run extremely fast. She also claimed that these abilities didn't come from food or water. While she said she gained her power after desperately wishing for water, I couldn't verify this."
He paused for a second, then added, "I believe it's best to let our scientists study these abilities further."
The room fell into a long silence as everyone pondered on Wu Lian's report.
Xu Qipeng looked at a young man in his mid-twenties wearing glasses and dressed in a white coat and asked, "Professor Xue, what do you think about this matter?"
Xue Wenjie slightly pushed his glasses up with his finger and replied calmly, "This isn't the first time in history that humans have exhibited extraordinary power or speed. However, it is indeed the first time I have heard of someone creating water out of nothing."
"Since Captain Wu has confirmed that woman's claim, I believe we should seek her cooperation to uncover more about her ability. If we can discover how she obtained her ability, humanity might have a chance to survive."
Xu Qipeng considered his words carefully and nodded after a long time, "Alright. I will leave this matter to you."
Xue Wenjie had no objections and responded, "I won't let you down, Commander Xu." Trusting in Xue Wenjie's skill and intelligence, Xu Qipeng turned to Wu Lian and said, "Captain Wu, you will assist Professor Xue with this project."
Wu Lian saluted, "Yes, Commander."
As the matter was urgent, Xue Wenjie gathered his belongings and stood up. He looked at the others and said, "Everyone, I will take my leave first."
"Alright." Xu Qipeng said and watched as Xue Wenjie and Wu Lian departed together.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
On their way to the darkroom area, Wu Lian glanced at Xue Wenjie and asked, "Professor Xue, do you think you will be able to figure out how these abilities are acquired?"
Xue Wenjie thought for a second and replied, "I'm about fifty percent confident that I can do it."
Wu Lian chuckled at this and sighed, "If even you are only fifty percent confident, this project is going to be difficult."
Xue Wenjie glanced at him briefly and said, "If my roommate were here, I would have ninety percent confidence to find the answer."
Raising his eyebrows slightly, Wu Lian asked curiously, "Your roommate? It's rare for you to hold someone in such high regard. Who is he?"
Ignoring the slight provocation in Wu Lian's tone, Xue Wenjie replied, "His name is Hua Shengyang."
Didn't know who he was, Wu Lian frowned slightly and said, "Hua Shengyang? Never heard of him. Is he famous?"
Xue Wenjie sighed at Wu Lian's lack of knowledge and thought, 'It's really tiring to talk to someone who only uses their muscles.'
After a brief silence, he explained, "Shengyang is the grandson of the Chairman of the Hua Group. Beyond his role as the Hua Group heir, he is also a promising professor in the medical field. Two years ago, he won a Nobel Prize for a groundbreaking medicine he developed."
Hearing this, Wu Lian's eyes flickered with interest.
He rubbed his stubble-covered chin and said, "So, your roommate is the grandson of one of the owners of the Haicheng Private Base. For someone like you to want his help, he must be truly exceptional in the medical field."
Xue Wenjie listened silently to Wu Lian's comments and said nothing. Seeing that Xue Wenjie didn't want to continue the conversation, Wu Lian also stopped asking questions.
Before long, they reached the darkroom area. The soldiers on duty saluted when they saw Wu Lian returning.
"Open the door." Wu Lian commanded.
Inside the dimly lit room, the woman leaned weakly against the wall. Hearing voices outside, she stared at the door, her gaze unblinking as she waited for it to open. When the light spilled into the room, she raised an arm to shield her eyes.
As her vision adjusted to the sudden brightness, she saw a man in glasses and a white coat standing beside Wu Lian. He had a calm yet imposing demeanor.
Xue Wenjie stood at the door with the light behind his back, observed her for a moment, and then said, "First, she needs a bath. After you clean her up, send her to my office."
After saying that, he turned around and left.
Watching his retreating figure, Wu Lian clicked his tongue and instructed, "Take her to the female soldiers' camp and let her clean up before escorting her to Professor Xue's office."
The soldiers saluted and replied, "Yes, Captain."
The woman's eyes widened as she overheard their conversation. Seeing Wu Lian turn to leave, she pushed her exhausted body forward and called out with a hint of fear in her voice, "Wait! What are you going to do to me?!"
Wu Lian paused mid-step, turned to look at her, and smiled. "Miss, we just need your cooperation in answering a few questions."
The woman stared at his smiling face, and chills ran down her spine. As Wu Lian walked away, she came to her senses, realizing the mistake she had made in revealing her ability.
