Chapter 273: Acid Rain (2)
Chapter 273: Acid Rain (2)
At Grandpa Quan's words, the other grandpas and grandmas quickly joined the race against time.
After Long Yu and the others finished moving the supplies to the underground cellar, they split into two teams.
Huang Zhihui and Deng Qiqi went to the kitchen to help Mother Han and Mother Sima prepare more food, while Long Yu and the rest headed to the backyard to assist Yao Ran and the elders in moving the crops.
By the time Mother Han finished packing the last batch of food, the cumulonimbus clouds were only five kilometers away from Shan Wu Resort.
Crack- Boom!
A deafening thunderclap shook the villa, making everyone tense.
Realizing they didn't have enough time to prepare more food, Mother Sima said urgently, "Let's move the food to the cellar."
Deng Qiqi offered, "Auntie, I will stay here and pack up the remaining ingredients and utensils."
"Alright."
Hearing this, Mother Sima, Mother Han, and Huang Zhihui nodded in agreement and hurriedly began transporting the packed food to the underground cellar.
Meanwhile, Yao Ran and the others continued digging soil in the backyard.
As Yao Ran tied up another bag of soil, she suddenly sneezed. "Achoo!"
Long Yu paused and looked at his girlfriend worriedly, "Ran Ran, are you catching a cold?"
With the temperature still high and steady at 50 degrees Celsius, it seemed unlikely that she would catch a cold.
Sniffing the air, Yao Ran detected a sour, acrid scent. Her eyes widened in alarm, and she said, "It's coming. Everyone, hurry to the underground cellar."
At her warning, Long Yu and the others quickly gathered the soil-filled bags and hauled them into the villa. They also grabbed the farming tools and any remaining water before rushing to safety. Before they could move everything to the cellar, the acid rain arrived.
Realizing there wasn't enough time to transport all the supplies, Long Yu made a quick decision.
"Run to the underground cellar now!" He commanded.
As soon as Long Yu said that, Yao Ran grabbed Grandma Sima, who was nearest to her, and rushed toward the cellar. The others snapped out of their daze, each helping an elder or carrying whatever they could as they followed.
At the entrance of the underground cellar, Huang Zhihui spotted Yao Ran pulling Grandma Sima and shouted, "Elder Sister Yao Ran, hurry up!"
The acid rain intensified as they ran. When a droplet landed on Yao Ran's hand, it caused a stinging, burning pain. She gritted her teeth and quickened her pace while ensuring Grandma Sima didn't fall.
Huang Zhihui helped Grandma Sima down the stairs and anxiously looked back at the others. Seeing the rain growing heavier by the second, she yelled to the others, "Run faster!"
The moment the last person entered, Huang Zhihui slammed the door shut, locked it and covered it with a sheet of tempered glass before descending the stairs.
Inside the underground cellar, now filled with supplies, everyone was panting heavily. Huang Qian, sitting on the ground, grimaced as he moved his arm. Looking down, he noticed a large patch of burned skin covering his right arm.
He hissed in pain and exclaimed, "Heaven, the acid rain is so poisonous! Look at my arm-it's like it's been burned by fire!"
At the end of the world, natural phenomena have grown far more extreme. Under normal circumstances, acid rain wouldn't directly harm the human body. But now, it burned their skin and flesh upon contact.
The underground cellar was spacious, divided into six rooms. Long Yu had designated three rooms for storing supplies and the other remaining rooms for living quarters.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
With several people injured, Yao Ran went to get her medical box from the storage room. Returning with the medical box, she first approached Huang Qian, who had been the last to enter the cellar.
After inspecting his wounds, she said, "I need to remove the dead skin and scrape off the infected flesh."
Hearing her words, Huang Qian shivered in pain but gritted his teeth and said, "Alright." Understanding how painful the treatment would be, Yao Ran administered local anesthesia to Huang Qian before starting the treatment.
Half an hour later, she finished bandaging his arm and said, "Keep it dry until the wound scabs over. I will change the bandage and apply new medicine for you tomorrow."
She then handed him antibiotics, painkillers, and anti-inflammatory medication and instructed him, "Take one pill of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicine twice a day. Only use the painkillers if the pain becomes unbearable."
Listening carefully to her, Huang Qian nodded, "Alright."
After tending to Huang Qian's wounds, Yao Ran moved on to treat Long Yu and the others. When she finally finished, she found a place to sit and began cleaning her own hands.
While she worked on her wounds, Long Yu approached and sat beside her. Taking the tweezers and a cotton ball soaked in alcohol from her hand, he said, "Let me help you."
Grateful for his help, Yao Ran nodded and let him clean her wounds.
As Long Yu carefully cleaned her wounds, she chuckled softly and teasingly said, "A Yu, at this rate, you will take the whole day to clean my wounds."
Long Yu frowned slightly, his movements gentle as he whispered, "It must hurt a lot."
Seeing his concerned expression, Yao Ran smiled, "You are the one with more severe injuries. This is nothing. I can handle it."
Long Yu raised his eyes to meet hers, his frown deepening. After a few seconds, he lowered his eyes and said, "Ran Ran, I wish for a life where you don't have to endure pain."
Yao Ran's heart softened at his words. Glancing around to ensure no one was watching, she leaned closer and kissed him lightly on the lips.
Long Yu's eyes widened in surprise when she kissed him, and Yao Ran chuckled at his dazed expression.
With her uninjured hand, she gently caressed his cheek. Touching her forehead to his, she whispered, "A Yu, thank you. I'm so lucky to have you in this life."
