Chapter 280: Thunderstorm, Megatsunami (2)
Chapter 280: Thunderstorm, Megatsunami (2)
Inside one of the villas near the beach, Xu Ruihan stood at a floor-to-ceiling window. His eyes darkened as he watched the approaching thunderclouds.
Taking the binoculars from one of his subordinates, Xu Ruihan scanned the sea. When he saw what lay beyond the clouds, his heart sank.
It wasn't just the giant thunderclouds that approached the coastline, but a towering wall of water was also approaching, hiding behind the dark thunderclouds. From his rough calculation, the first wave, combined with the storm, would strike the coastline in less than ten minutes.
Snapping back to reality, Xu Ruihan handed the binoculars to a subordinate and ordered, "Pack up. We will leave immediately."
"Yes, Boss!"
Xu Ruihan's men were well-trained and obeyed without question. The moment he gave the order, they sprang into action.
As his team packed, Xu Ruihan hurried next door to another villa. Ignoring the bodyguards guarding the villa, he strode through the gate and into the main hall.
"Mu Xichen! Hua Shengyang!" He shouted.
Moments later, Mu Xichen and Hua Shengyang walked out of their rooms. One held a stack of reports, while the other wore protective goggles and surgical gloves-both looked at him without expressions.
Seeing them, Xu Ruihan said urgently, "We are leaving in two minutes. Hurry and pack your things!"
Noticing the hint of anxiety inside his cold eyes, both men returned to their rooms without a word to gather their things.
Exactly two minutes later, the three of them climbed into a military vehicle and left Haicheng Beach with their team.
More than forty military vehicles leaving at the same time quickly attracted the survivors' attention. Those aware of Xu Ruihan's identity hurriedly packed their belongings and followed his convoy, while others, still hopeful for rain, remained behind, eagerly waiting.
Inside the military off-road vehicle, Mu Xichen was focused on typing on his laptop. Seated beside him, Hua Shengyang gazed back at the ominous thunderclouds, his expression heavy with concern.
The car was silent except for the sound of typing. Just as Mu Xichen was about to speak, the sunlight vanished entirely, plunging the sky into darkness.
Xu Ruihan's face darkened when he saw this.
"Drive faster!" He commanded.
Glancing into the rearview mirror, the driver saw a scene that would haunt him forever.
The sky darkened rapidly as a giant wall of water approached at a fast speed. Above it, lightning streaked across the sky like jagged threads, and the thunderclouds loomed ominously lower with each passing second.
Realizing what was coming, the driver's hands trembled, and his body was cold.
It's a megatsunami!
Gritting his teeth, he gripped the steering wheel tightly, floored the accelerator, and silently prayed the vehicle could somehow outrun the incoming megatsunami. Seeing the leading car speed up, the vehicles behind it followed suit, staying as close as possible to one another.
Meanwhile, on the beach, survivors noticed the towering wall of water and finally realized something was terribly wrong. They froze momentarily before breaking into screams, scattering in sheer panic.
Chaos erupted.
People shoved and trampled one another, families were separated, and the crowd surged in every direction like a frantic, dark tide.
Near the water's edge, the mother and daughter, who had been hopeful just moments earlier, stood frozen, staring at the enormous wall of water that loomed over them.
The child clung tightly to her mother in confusion and fear. "Mom, it's a lot of water," she said in a trembling voice.
The mother embraced her daughter, holding her as tightly as she could. She kissed her daughter's thin and dirty cheek and whispered, "Baby, Mommy loves-"
But before she could finish, the massive wave crashed down, engulfing everything in its path. The crowd was swept away instantly, swallowed by the merciless water before they could
even attempt to escape.
Boom! Crack Boom!
Lightning struck, momentarily illuminating the catastrophic scene below and heightening the terror of those fleeing. The waves roared, smashing through villas, fishing boats, and vehicles alike.
As the first wave, towering over four hundred meters high, obliterated everything in its path, even larger waves surged behind it.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Bang!
When the second wave hit, rain began to pour, accompanied by relentless thunder and flashes of lightning.
Crack~ Boom!
Inside the speeding car, Mu Xichen's eyes were glued to his laptop screen.
After a moment of silence, he calmly announced, "The thunderstorm has arrived, and more than a dozen higher waves will hit the land in three minutes. Based on my calculations, Haicheng Beach will be completely wiped off the map within half an hour."
Xu Ruihan and Hua Shengyang exchanged uneasy glances in the dim interior of the car. The thunderclouds obscured the sky, making it impossible to see the destruction behind them. Xu Ruihan clenched his fists as he looked at Mu Xichen through the rear mirror. "Xichen, how far inland will the tsunami reach?" he asked grimly.
Mu Xichen typed on his keyboard for a moment before replying, "The data suggests the tsunami will submerge the entirety of Haicheng City, sinking it into the ocean. Within two days, sea levels will rise by more than 200 meters, and the boundaries of land will continue to shrink as sea levels continue to increase."
Xu Ruihan's expression darkened at his answer. He looked at his childhood friend and asked, "So, you are saying we have no choice but to abandon Haicheng Base and evacuate?"
After a moment of silence, Mu Xichen nodded, "Yes."
When he said this, the car fell silent. While the three of them were busy searching for a way to ensure everyone's safety, the driver's body was drenched in cold sweat.
Behind them, the first wave of the megatsunami was closing in. Seeing that it was only a few hundred meters from reaching the last military vehicles in their convoy, the driver swallowed hard and pressed the accelerator even further.
The engine roared, and the car sped up, but the heavy rain and darkness made it very difficult to avoid obstacles on the road.
