Chapter 282: Evacuation
Chapter 282: Evacuation
As soon as he stepped into the spacious office, Mu Jieshan sensed the tense atmosphere.
Thinking the three brats had caused trouble again, he glanced at Mu Xichen and then asked Xu Boya, "Old Xu, did these brats make trouble again?"
Hearing his question, Xu Boya snapped out of his thoughts. He looked at his two old friends and the other senior officers for a moment before saying, "We are evacuating today."
The others were stunned when they heard what he said.
Building Haicheng Base into one of the most powerful bases was not easy. But now, Xu Boya suddenly asked them to leave the base, which made the others confused and curious.
Believing his friend wouldn't speak without a good reason, Hua Yangkui asked, "Old Xu, what's your reason for ordering the evacuation?"
Xu Boya glanced at Mu Xichen when Hua Yangkui asked. Noticing his gaze, Mu Xichen turned his laptop screen toward the group and replayed footage of the thunderstorm and megatsunami that happened at Haicheng Beach yesterday.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
As the others watched the surveillance footage in shock, Xu Boya said, "Xichen, repeat what you told me earlier."
Mu Xichen nodded and recounted his explanation. The others listened intently, and their expressions grew grim the more they listened.
When Mu Xichen finished speaking, his grandfather asked, "Xichen, can you calculate how far inland the seawater will reach?"
Mu Xichen typed on his laptop for a while before replying, "The seawater will submerge land up to 180 kilometers inland from Haicheng City."
At his words, the room fell into silence. Mu Jieshan frowned and asked, "Old Xu, do you have a plan for where we will go?"
Xu Boya thought about it for a moment and said, "We will head to Juncheng City. My second son is there, and there's Juncheng Military Base."
After saying that, he turned to Mu Xichen and asked, "Xichen, can you calculate the safest route to Juncheng City?"
Mu Xichen nodded, "I will do it now."
While Mu Xichen worked on planning the evacuation route, Xu Boya looked at the others and said, "We need to inform the survivors and pack up. In four hours, we will leave for Juncheng -City."
"Yes, Chairman Xu." After accepting the order, the senior officers left the office to begin preparations.
After they left, Mu Jieshan said, "Old Xu, I heard Juncheng Military Base is governed not just by Qipeng but also by a commander from the Second Army of Juncheng Military. Are you sure we will be allowed entry when we arrive there?"
Xu Boya, who was still in contact with his second son, already knew about this. After pondering for a moment, he asked his grandson, "Ruihan, how many supplies do we currently have?"
Xu Ruihan replied, "Enough to feed everyone two meals a day for half a year. Besides the supplies in the warehouse, we also have reserves stored in the air raid shelters scattered around the country."
Haicheng City had around 150,000 survivors, 20,000 soldiers, and 7,000 administrative personnel-nearly 180,000 people in total.
Evacuating that many people and integrating them into Juncheng Military Base won't be easy. However, offering supplies as an entry fee might make the process smoother.
After thinking it over, Xu Boya said, "If we are denied entry to Juncheng Military Base, we will follow the rules and pay the entry fee. If that doesn't work, we can rebuild our base. It will be challenging with our current resources, but it's not impossible."
Listening to his words, Mu Jieshan and Hua Yangkui nodded in agreement. With the three grandfathers' decision, their grandsons could only follow orders.
While they discussed the evacuation route, the base released an official announcement.
"To all survivors. Due to the megatsunami and super earthquake that struck Haicheng Beach yesterday, the sea level is rising rapidly. Haicheng Beach sank into the ocean yesterday, and seawater continues to move inland."
"Seawater will reach Haicheng Base in less than 20 hours. The senior officers have decided to evacuate to Juncheng City. For those who wish to join us, please pack lightly and prepare to leave in four hours. For those who prefer to leave on their own, food and water can be redeemed at the main hall."
"The main hall will close in three hours, and the redemption process will end. Please make sure you collect your supplies before then. We wish you all the best of luck. May Heaven bless all of us."
As soon as the official announcement was echoed around the base through the loudspeakers, panic spread among the survivors. Those employed by the base quickly decided to follow its evacuation plan, while others, living day-to-day without purpose, were at a loss for what to do.
The remaining survivors, who have family members in other places, decided to redeem their supplies and go find their families. It would be best if they could find them. However, if that doesn't work, they can find another base and continue living.
Five minutes after the official announcement, the main hall was filled with survivors who came to redeem supplies. Some survivors suddenly became anxious when they saw this scene.
"Hurry up and pack your things!"
"Quick, we need to get supplies from the main hall before it's too late!"
While chaos unfolded in Haicheng Base, far away in Fengcheng City, Gao Shuwei was watching a recording of the megatsunami that had struck Haicheng Beach.
When the video ended, his expression darkened. Around the oval glass table, the senior officers of The Ark sat silently, not daring to speak.
After a long silence, Gao Shuwei shifted his gaze from the screen to the others and ordered, "Continue monitoring the tectonic plate movements and the sea level. Remember also to watch for changes happening in the atmosphere."
The officer responsible for tracking natural disasters quickly replied, "Yes, Sir."
Next, Gao Shuwei turned to a middle-aged man in a white lab coat and asked, "Do you have any findings on the cause of early mutations in animals and plants?"
