Chapter 268: Interrogation (1)
Unfortunately, it was too late. The assistant and the soldier could only watch as Wu Lian thoughtfully licked his lips after drinking the water.
The two stared at him worriedly. After a few moments of silence, the assistant anxiously asked, "Captain, how do you feel? Any discomfort? Nausea?"
Wu Lian shook his head, "I'm fine. The water is safe for consumption."
He capped the bottle and handed it to his assistant, "Take this to the lab for analysis."
The assistant nodded, "Yes, Captain."
After the assistant left with the bottle of water, Wu Lian stood up from his chair, put on his heat-resistant jacket, and said, "Let's go. I want to meet this person who claims she could create water."
"Yes, Captain." The soldier responded promptly.
After leaving the office, the two went to the dark room area, a place where criminals could only enter but not exit.
Arriving at the darkroom area, Wu Lian motioned for the guards to open the door. As he stepped inside the dark room, light from the corridor shone in and illuminated the room.
Before he could speak, the person sitting in the corner suddenly stood up and angrily pointed a finger at him.
"As soldiers, how can you guys imprison a good citizen like me without reason?!" She asked furiously.
The room had no windows or lamps, so Wu Lian left the door open, allowing the faint corridor light to illuminate the small space. He walked up to a chair and calmly sat down.
While the woman cursed at him angrily, Wu Lian calmly observed her.
Despite her disheveled appearance, she appeared clean. Her faded dress, though worn, was spotless except for some dust at the hem. His eyes flickered with interest at the contrast. Bam!
The woman slammed her palm on the table, and Wu Lian noticed a small crack appear. His eyes darkened when he realized that this woman was stronger than ordinary people.
"This woman is not as simple as she seems.'
As he silently studied her, the woman sneered.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
"If you know what is good for you, you should release me this instant." She said confidently. Wu Lian met her gaze calmly and asked, "Miss, do you even know why you've been detained?"
She placed her hands on her hips, looked at him in disdain, and asked back, "Isn't it because you covet my abilities?"
Wu Lian's interest deepened at her words. A faint smile appeared on his lips, and he said, "Miss, I think you misunderstood us."
The woman frowned, pausing for a few seconds before asking, "Then why am I imprisoned here?"
Putting on a helpless expression, Wu Lian explained, "You caused trouble in the main square. According to the rules, this requires a warning and a three-day stay in the darkroom. If you cause trouble again, you will be banned from entering Juncheng Military Base entirely."
Seeing fear flickered in her eyes, Wu Lian added, "Besides, who would believe you can create water? Everyone knows water is more precious than gold right now. If you truly could create water, wouldn't you already be a ruler in this world?"
The woman's eyes lit up at his words, and her expression turned smug. She snorted and said, "Hmph! Now that you know, you should know what to do."
Wu Lian watched her acting arrogantly and couldn't help but secretly roll his eyes.
This was the first time he had met a woman without a brain. Even dogs were smarter than her. Wu Lian sneered inwardly but kept his outward expression calm and helpless.
"You don't believe me?" She asked, then lifted her chin proudly and announced, "Then I will show you."
She grabbed an empty bowl from the table, placed her palm above it, and concentrated. Wu Lian waited patiently, wanting to see how she would show her ability to him. As the woman struggled, his eyes never left her palm on top of the bowl.
Ten seconds passed, and a single droplet of water slowly formed between her palm and the bowl. Wu Lian's eyes flickered in surprise.
Noticing his reaction, the woman smirked despite the beads of sweat forming on her forehead. Although she had exhausted her energy today, the woman clenched her teeth and continued to create water, determined to prove herself.
For her pride and bright future, she had to fill this bowl with water!
Nearly an hour later, the bowl was only half full. The woman staggered and collapsed onto the ground, gasping for air. She had depleted her water-element energy and knew drawing more would put her life at risk.
Wu Lian ignored her and focused his attention on the bowl. The water inside was clear and free of impurities, confirming his suspicions as it matched the sample he had sent to the lab earlier.
After inspecting the water inside the bowl, Wu Lian glanced at the exhausted woman sitting on the ground. His frown deepened as irritation bubbled within him.
"Tsk! She acted so confident, yet this is the extent of her ability? Bragging and overestimating herself. How disappointing.'
As his initial annoyance faded, Wu Lian continued to observe the young woman. His expression slowly changed as his thoughts began to shift.
When the woman met his deep eyes, a shiver ran down her spine. She instinctively moved back and stammered, "Wh-what do you want?"
Wu Lian squatted in front of her and smiled, "Miss, you are truly remarkable."
The woman blinked, stunned by his words. A second later, she recovered her composure and proudly replied, "Well, of course! Hmph!"
Wu Lian chuckled, noting how easily she lowered her guard when he just prised her a little bit. "This woman is naïve and careless. Getting information from her will be very easy.'
With that in mind, Wu Lian gently helped her to her feet and guided her to the chair. Once she was seated, he sat across from her with the cracked table between them.
He raised his hand and ordered, "Someone, bring some food for this young lady."
